Another one: first-model 360s. I think my launch unit is finally about to kick the bucket.

Well, it survived a RROD and a crappy disk tray... But I think the laser is just gone.

I hate it when I make a conscious effort not to save scum... And then forget to save completely, dying 30 minutes later.

When most video games were made by 1-4 people the game companies banned credits or forced initials and nicknames so no, it was worse back then.

Definitely.

I'm not sure if it happens that much today, but developer poaching was extremely popular in the 80s.

Some developers even went out of their way to put secret areas with their names into games they developed.

Activision was the only company that really emphasized who developed each game. Every 2600 cartridge from them has a name on it. :)

Some PC developers liked to put their names on games as well, but for the most part, it was hidden until the later part of the 80s. Mostly with the advent of completable, story driven games.

Annoying thing: Getting old PC games to run on new a 64bit OS. PC may be the most backwards compatible platform but user friendly compatibility it is not.

Yeah. I have a Windows 98 PC sitting in the next room. Every once in a while I want to play Rogue Squadron, so it still gets plenty of love.

I was considering investing in a cheap Pentium 2 laptop for any games that refuse to run. Would miss out on some nice 3D accelerator support that I could have with a desktop but should be quick enough for anything I want to play in software mode. Most stuff is still pretty easy to get running though, especially DOS games in DOSBox. Some of that stuff 1993-1998 can be a real pain though.

That's why they invented easter eggs :P That was the standard at Atari, but I've never heard of any other company forcing something like that. Besides there were plenty of self published games back then.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box
