Playstation 2 powers up, no audio, no video...

Post by elmagicochrisg »

Playstation 2 powers up. I get both the red and green power light. Fan works too. As far as I can hear the disc spins too. But no audio and no video. The TV screen shows a white flash when I power the PS2 up, so there is some activity, but it remains black afterwards...

I cleaned the console and checked all 16 fuses on the motherboard. Everything looks just fine... :?

Tried it on 2 TVs and with 2 different cables...

Any ideas?...

Unless the AV port looks messed up, I'd say it's time take it in to a repair shop or buy a new one.

somehow you have to find what type of AV cable it had on.

Did it have component or composite? Find a TV with these and try it out. If you do find the right signal, you can change it on the PS menu.

I've had this happen when I change the type of signal. Sometimes the audio goes out and you have to reset the PS. Once done correctly, it should work.

Another thing you should check is the cable itself. Maybe its bent or damaged and you aren't getting a good signal. Also check the PS2 itself where the AV cable connects. maybe thats damaged too?

You mean the YPbPr or RGB setting. Yeah, maybe it's in YPbPr mode, and I'm trying to boot the console with a composite (RGB mode) cable. I don't have my PS component cable here right now, but I'll give it a try...

EDIT But wouldn't I have sound, even if it was in YPbPr mode? I tried both cinch and optical audio out, neither gives sound...

if he's getting a flash of white, video output is working. i'm betting the BA5815FM(or possibly the LA6508 in the case of v9/10) chip is toast, you get those exact symptoms when that shorts or fries. i blew one on a version 4 fatty (don't ask  ) and the system would power up but not boot at all unless i desoldered that chip. if the system boots after removing that chip, you can either buy a replacement chip and install it, or just use it as a no-laser system with HDloader/OPL.
