In what way? It's first person and you shoot stuff. It's main focus is exploration, but it's still an FPS.
Metroid Prime is an FPS in the same way that Super Metroid is a run-n-gun. Nintendo itself calls it a "first-person adventure game", although in generic conventions it's probably best described as a first-person action-adventure game.
Another thing. Story driven games don't really work with bosses. In rare instances they do (Wolfenstein, Doom) but in most modern story driven games they just don't fit (See Deus Ex HR)

Resistance games only have final bosses, don't they? I only played the first two PS3 games but the only unique bosses I remember were end game. Xeogred's point is that there are bosses all throughout DNF that make it feel like an awesome 90s FPS. Resistance has a lot of "large type" enemies or whatever, but I don't think that counts really because they constantly re-appear, so therefore are just normal enemies.

Killzone? I've only played one of them but I'm pretty sure it didn't have a single boss? Giant vehicles or whatever, aren't comparable to how DNF did bosses.

Don't remember bosses in FEAR or Deus Ex at all, maybe I'm just crazy or forgot or something. As for AvP and Portal, never played.

Far Cry and Half-Life (which is a 90s game) seem like the only games with bosses that count as games that provide awesome 90s FPS style boss fights on your list there. You forgot Serious Sam though, which is the series that does the throwback elements the best in my opinion. DNF definitely stands out in today's market though as a unique throwback game. It really feels like a 90s PC FPS and that's something that's extremely rare now. Resistance, Killzone, Halo, FEAR, Far Cry, Portal, Half Life, AvP, Metroid Prime, Deus Ex don't really compare at all in that regard.

Argue about the bosses as you will, but I have a really hard time seeing how DNF feels like a throwback title. 2 weapons, regenerating health, and you move incredibly slowly. Sure there's a sprint button but you can't actually do anything while holding it so it pretty much serves to piss me off and nothing more.

It feels more like a game that had an extremely long development where every time a new and popular came along the developers added that "feature".

Serious Sam 3 has some of my favorite bosses. The way they illustrated the upward arc of your expanding arsenal was really impressive. Going from breathlessly killing one by the skin of my teeth to facing down three at a time the very next level was exhilarating. Does anyone still play that game? I'd love to try out the 16-player co-op.

I was going to buy it but only me and dsh wanted in on the 4 pack when it was on sale (which would've equated to like 4 bucks per person). :?

Somehow that makes me feel guilty! I bought it during the Steam holiday sale (or something) last year. And I loved it.

Wow, that would have been a good price. The current price on Amazon is $40.
