How do I deal with eco friendly cases? Here's how.
How do I deal with eco friendly cases? Here's how.
I used to exchange the eco friendly cases with the used games I buy from gamestop, but then I got tired of doing so. This eco friendly thing isn't going to stop, so I found an alternative way. I have a lot of those plastic sheets that I use for the overhead projectors and for my architectural study models, so I decided to use them as extra backing for the covers. You simply measure the case and cut the transparency sheets with your razor knife or scissors and simply insert it behind the cover. Why you want to do that? well, I tend to drop things by accident and that's just human. Another thing I notice is that sometimes manuals are a little small that they tend to get caught up with the holes where the holders are, which often times lead to torn pages and wrinkles around the corner of the manuals. What you can do is cut another of those sheets to cover that whole area. I've done this with many of my games that I own and sell at ebay and it does provide quite a bit of protection (better than nothing I say). I hope this helps.

Good idea. I hate how those eco cases leave the one thing they're supposed to protect exposed. My cases mostly stay on the shelf, though, so I haven't had too much of a problem with them.

If I don't like an eco case, I take an old DVD box and switch the inserts. Only works for DVD based PC games though. For consoles, the trick is to buy old worthless sports games for the same system that don't have eco cases, and switch the boxes.

you have no idea how easy it is to indent on the covers. You never know what did it.Duane Dibbley wrote:Good idea. I hate how those eco cases leave the one thing they're supposed to protect exposed. My cases mostly stay on the shelf, though, so I haven't had too much of a problem with them.

Good idea! A replacement case might be about the same cost, but then it would not be the original. I prefer non Eco cases but also like to keep a game CIB in complete originality. Your method is one way to do it, the inserts do not modify an original case and can easily be added or removed. Is there an issue of the outer plastic sleeve stretching, maybe a cover might slip out if the backing is removed?
A great point about keeping a game manual from tearing with the sleeve. This alone makes it worthwhile keeping an inner sleeve behind the manual. At the other side, I hate the flimsy disc holder which flexes too much when I push the center to remove a disc. The thick transparancy behind could be the ticket to keep it stiff.
Good Reference, maybe a Mod could move this Thread to the Guides section?

^actually, the added plastic sleeve doesn't really make it any easier to remove the disc from the holder. What I tend to do is use a cd envelope, but I think there's a method. In order to "reduce" the flex, you can try to press it against a harder surface like a table top and not on something soft like a carpet. It kinda helps, but I prefer the cd envelope.
