A common discussion in the forums is whether or not companies should rely on their old IPs or make new ones. I think it would be a cool idea if we try and make our own IPs. So here goes my idea.
Story:
The story follows a gunslinger from the West when he is abducted by martians. He wakes up in a cell on Mars and finds that it is populated by robots and aliens. He makes his escape with the help of a fellow prisoner who is an alien of another species, not from Earth nor Mars. He leaves the compound upon finding a jetpack and the game continues from there.
Gameplay:
The game will be a 3rd person shooter with the player using the jetpack and the skills of the gunslinger.
So there is my idea for an IP. If you think my idea is bad, why don't you try?
Make a New IP

Ehh...
Maybe something more like a alien invasion on earth, that just sounds too out there for me.
One idea I've been thinking about is a shmup with the player having no weapons. Enemies come from all sides, and the only way to damage them is to get them to shoot other enemies. Although, I'm not sure how boss fights would work.

this space intentionally left blank.
Maybe have other, smaller fighters come in from the other side, trying to "back up" the boss, but occasionally hitting him while firing at you? Makes the boss battles into a timed affair, if all the enemies fire in specific patterns, but it's one possibility.
How about this? A robot squirrel escapes from a lab and inhabits a tree, but believes it needs to harvest nuts for the winter. The game is a sandbox of a suburban neighborhood with a large park, and another more industrialized block on the other side, including the lab. The player must complete missions to acquire more nuts, while avoiding cars, large insects, cats, dogs, pest control people, children, frightened mothers, and lab workers. Throw in a few other small talking woodland creatures to give missions, get Akira Toriyama to do the art, and the game's gold.

Perhaps have some kind of Gundam/Anime type Robot wielding a katana as the main character. He will have no weapons except for the KAtana which can deflect bullets and send them back flying towards enemies.Zer wrote:Ehh...

A game where the player goes around in the shadows trying to make people turn on each other using false information and traps... or simply assasinate them using discrete weapons. The ultimate goal is to turn your society (a large city) against itself so you can controll everything and eliminate all oposition. If you're caught, you either have to take down all your persuers or escape and hide. You can even trick people into trusting you so they can do your dirty work for you, only to be discovered and give the police the wrong info to throw them off your trail. Want to be really crazy? Corrupt someone in a high place so that their underlings (your foes) are fed lies and feed their underlings lies... then they all turn on each other, and you watch from a distance.
Be careful, you can betray anyone you want, and they can do the same to you. You might think you've forced a police cheif into trusting you, but in reality he's playing you completely. As soon as you make the wrong move, his men surround you and gun you down.
Eventually, your hard work leads to the corruption and eventual fall of the city you live in. Out of absolute fear, people will throw themselves at your feet and do anything you say.
