What really annoys me...

I still think it's a little beyond OP's level of computer knowledge.

Apple hardware is often horribly overpriced as well, for what you get. There have been times when Alienware isn't terrible, particularly with laptops - when my brother got his M11x R2, it was one of the better priced CULV laptops on the market, and just happened to come with a decent GPU. Desktops...yeah, basically neverpankakes123 wrote:because crap like Alienware is the most overpriced thing in history.
Perhaps. That's the basic problem I see with hackintosh solutions - there's a fairly narrow range of hardware that will work perfectly, and on top of that you never know if an update will break it. It's a viable solution for some, but not all.I still think it's a little beyond OP's level of computer knowledge.

Why not use a distro of Linux that mimic's the OSX feel such as Ubuntu or something?
BananaXX's FS/FT Shop!!! +27 feedback and growing!!

Might depend on what one is doing with the computer, since if you actually want/need to use a lot of commercial applications, OS X is your one real alternative to Windows (unless you want to mess with WINE).BananaXX wrote:Why not use a distro of Linux that mimic's the OSX feel such as Ubuntu or something?
As a typical Facebook/Youtube/Google machine, sure, 90% of what you're doing is inside a browser anyway.

I'm confused as to why the OP wants an iMac if he is just going to connect it to a TV. Why not get a Mac Mini? Hell, get a Macbook Pro.
I have a Mac Mini connected to my 50" HDTV.

Alienware has great pricing when it comes down to refurbished laptops.
Picked up the M17x-R2 with 500GB hard drive @7200 rpm, Core i7 820M @1.73GHz overclock-able to 3.06GHz, AMD Radeon Mobility 5870 @ 1GB SDRAM, 4GB RAM, and a BD Drive. All for $1500. Runs everything I throw at it at high settings (mainly play Fallout 3/New Vegas, Skyrim, DX:HR, Borderlands, and GTA 4).

Mac Mini's power is lacking to say the least, and Mac Pros are ridiculously pricey.Zing wrote:I'm confused as to why the OP wants an iMac if he is just going to connect it to a TV. Why not get a Mac Mini? Hell, get a Macbook Pro.

Perhaps but I dunno... Maybe see about having someone build him a hackintosh? That'll fill the requirement of the MacOS and the cheaper parts of a DIY.sabrage wrote:I still think it's a little beyond OP's level of computer knowledge.

Only to those with a vested financial and emotional interest in commoditized Windows PCs. Is it some sort of psychotic mantra?sabrage wrote:Yup. And it bears repeating.pankakes123 wrote:Macs are ridiculously pricey.
