I watched the CGR review. The game looks really fun; it seems to be a combo of many of my favorite games.

I'll be checking out the demo soon.

After playing the demo a few times I must say that I am impressed. I may look into buying the game.

I've played the demo now, and was somewhat impressed. I was somewhat aggrivated at the fact it felt slightly... unrefined. I was happy to see the playstyle, but most of the time I felt like I was randomly flailing around and not doing well. I was happy with the grab and climb mechanic, but I was confused as to how it worked. I just kind of held the trigger and moved the stick at random until I was on the creatures head. Archery, I found, was HARD. It also felt a bit underpowered, considering the power of the melee, but I guess it is some kind of balancing.

Just some thoughts.
This game plays a lot like Monster Hunter (I don't know if you've played any MH games or not). I put about 70 hours into MH Tri as an archer so I kinda felt at home in Dragon's Dogma. And I definitely didn't find an archer to be underpowered. A mage kept enchanting my weapons with a fire spell and I reigned utter havoc on that MF-ing griffin.

There's definitely a learning curve to this style of game.

So am I the only one playing this??

This is like the ultimate fantasy adventure! This game puts Demon's Souls to shame (in my opinion! Don't kill me for liking this game more.)

If you weren't such a good guy I'd flame the fuck out of you for that Opa. But seriously, complete the game, complete Demon's Souls, then talk to me.

And yes I played the demo. It was mediocre.

(feel free to ignore me being a douchebag and explain what you find so good about this game and what it does better than deemun's souls)

Just an update. I've played the game about 8 hours now. Really liking it so far. I've never played Demon Souls though so I can't say if it's better than that, but it definitely is basically an HD Monster Hunter game. That's a good thing.

Alrighty. What I like and don't like about this game compared to Demon's Souls.

Dragon's Dogma is superior in:

Exploration: Demon's Souls had some hidden areas but you were still stuck on the path set before you. There really wasn't a sense of exploration. Dragon's Dogma is open-world. Want to cross that mountain? Go ahead. Want to explore a dark cavern? Do it.
So I prefer to have an open-world available to me. (From my understanding, Dark Souls is kind of open-world... so maybe I'll like it even more than Demon's Souls.)

Combat: Maybe it was just my class of character in Demon's Souls but I felt like it was difficult to handle large groups of enemies. Eventually I got my character to the point where he could handle a crowd but Demon's Souls felt like a game meant to consist of one-on-one fights.
Dragon's Dogma plays like Monster Hunter. You can handle a crowd of enemies but that doesn't mean you're unstoppable.

Setting: I prefer the traditional fantasy setting of DD. From locations like castles, forests, caves, dungeons to enemies like Orcs, Harpies, Trolls, Cyclops, Wolves, et cetera. Demon's Souls has some of these locations and enemies as well, but not really to the extent of Dragon's Dogma. DD feels a lot more Tolkien-esque.

Demon's Souls is superior in:

Combat: You can target your enemies in Demon's Souls... not in Dragon's Dogma. Dodge, parry, counter attack... You're so much more combat efficient in Demon's Souls as far as fighting a single enemy is concerned.

Graphics: I'm not a graphics whore but Demon's Souls looks waaay better than Dragon's Dogma. Character models, lighting effects, environments. Demon's Souls is just superior graphically.
There's also some pop-in in Dragon's Dogma. It isn't game breaking or anything; but it is noticeable.

---

Keep in mind that this is just my own opinion. Just because I'm enjoying this game more than Demon's Souls doesn't mean I'm writing it off entirely. I loved Demon's Souls and I plan on playing Dark Souls sometime.

I really enjoyed the demo, but I was turned off by the lack of any kind of co-op multiplayer. The pawn NPC and the ability to swap them out for other user's creations is unique, but I would rather just have the ability to roam the countryside with another human player.

I don't agree with this complaint. Demon's Souls is very open world, you're free to go anywhere whenever you want, doesn't get much more open world. Yeah you have to unlock areas, but everything is left to your discretion. Open world games initially have area restrictions. Dark Souls is indeed more open world feeling though, but ultimately it's the same as Demon's Souls minus The Nexus when you boil it down.

Everything is difficult in Demon's Souls.

Well I can't say much about that, all taste in that matter.

Yeah I know, it's all good. I just can't imagine this game topping the opus that Demon's Souls was so hearing that it's "superior" to it is just insane to me, but again I'm very biased and absolutely love DS. Do play Dark Souls though, if you enjoy open world, and enjoyed Demon's Souls to at least some extent, you're sure to like Dark Souls.

Two nights in a row till 4AM means I love it.

The demo doesn't do this game a lot of justice. Like Lost Planet 2 this is a baroque Capcom title that has no idea how to present its best ideas (or it buries them in layers of crazy). But I can see easily putting the same kind of time into this that I have Dark Souls (180 hours and counting).

When I finally quit last night I was throwing zombies off a bottomless staircase (they flail REAL good), snaring skeletons in my one-handed net, and getting jumped on and slammed into a wall by an ogre.

TIP: as soon as you start up the game go into the options and turn off Pawn subtitles (they'll repeat anything they say hundreds of times anyway) and then--when you're familiar with the controls--turn off the button diagram. Until you do the screen looks like a dog's breakfast. I might also turn off the "cinematic camera"--which disruptively slo-mos the game when pawns make a killing strike--but I haven't yet.
