Post a picture of yourself...no not a damn mug

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I looked up that picture, and apparently that guy, Boromir, is from Lord of the Rings? She said I looked like someone from Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire.

Edit: Unless that actor is in both, in which case I'm a dummy.
He's an actor in both.
Nice!

So, Sean Bean/Eddard Stark eh? I can definitely appreciate that.

Well, I always knew really. I suppose I was just in denial!

As for Game of Thrones, I'm sure its great. The only real reason I don't watch it is because I've read all of the books. Part of the series' appeal is the twists and turns the story takes, and I already know everything that's going to happen! I also don't have HBO, but that's hardly an excuse nowadays.

Lord of the Rings, well... I saw and read Fellowship (the reading was many years before the watching) and I never went any further than that. At the risk of drawing pitchforks and torches, I never really cared for it.

I'm sure a lot of people will grow to hate me for saying that, but I'd rather not lie about it.

I don't hate it or anything, I'm just not interested.

The Game of Thrones series is over-rated bunk. I've read a good portion of the novels before I couldn't stomach anymore and meh. Mid-tier fantasy at best, I have no clue what the hype is all about, there are so many series out there that put it to shame.

I'm not going to defend ASOIAF, because even though I enjoy the series it most certainly is overrated. Anything that becomes popular is destined to be overshadowed by its own legend after all. And at the risk of sounding like a hipster, I read them before they were cool.

That said though, I think "top-tier" fantasy would be rare at best. If you have an example of something that you think fits the bill, I'm all ears, because I'd be interested in checking it out.

Please leave out Lord of the Rings, if you could. I don't know what you think of it, but I've met an awful lot of people who seem to believe that its the greatest thing ever written.

I like that shirt she's wearing. Is that a pocket that the mushroom's coming out of? If so, if it had a "?" block on the front of it, it'd be the perfect t-shirt.

She says she thought the same thing when she bought it.

And yeah, the mushroom is coming out of the pocket, but its not an actual pocket. Its "drawn" on there in a way that makes it look stitched.

I don't hate ASOIAF, but I feel it's very over-rated (even though I hate that term). My opinion of S-tier fantasy? Wheel of Time and Lord of the Rings aw yeah!

But really, Malazan Book of the Fallen, Gormenghast, Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (first few anyway), and The Prince of Nothing (Second Apocalypse series). We've talked about the Prince of Nothing/Second Apocalypse series before actually, although you may not remember (was very brief and at least a year ago). These series go far beyond any levels ASOIAF reach in my opinion.

For the record though I honestly prefer Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, and even the Monarchies of God series to ASOIAF.

Fantasy is junk food. Why are we talking about this in the vanity thread?

Sean Bean! He's awesome. As is mentioned in the Lord of the Rings behind-the-scenes stuff, and as wikipedia notes:

"Bean's well-known fear of flying, with helicopters, caused him difficulties in mountainous New Zealand, where the trilogy was filmed. After a particularly rough ride, he vowed not to fly to a location again. In one instance, he chose to take a ski lift into the mountains and then hike the final few miles, in full costume complete with shield, armour and sword."

So badass.

And you do look like Laurence Fishburne. Good call, Luke.
