It is perfect. Unfortunately, it was only released in Japan and people tend to sell it in the $60 range. I used to sell them for $40, because I'm a nice guy, and I STILL make $30+ profit on it (minus transportation and packing, of course). They are usually $5-6 when you find them at Hard-Off... except they only turned up for me like once every couple months. They are hard to find sometimes.

I dunno, is it really at all fair to compare Saturn Bomberman to Bomberman Hero? Hero being a single-player game and all...
Yes, it is. FYI, I do own it. It wasn't even supposed to be a Bomberman game. The point is that I'm surprised someone would list it on a "favourites" list. It's... decent I guess, at best.
I think most just consider it under-appreciated. That combined with the fact that it's very, very cheap I think makes it worth owning on its own merits. I'd never consider it a top game of any kind really, but I do like it.

I dunno, the design looks like it has the same big shortcoming as the Gamecube controller, that is, the d-pad is tiny and kinda awkwardly placed. I wouldn't play Mischief Makers or the AKI Wrestling games with that thing... then again I guess that's what the normal controller is for.

True, but other than those few games, what are you using the d-pad for anyway?

Well, it's all objective. I felt that in an era of fetch-quest platformers, Bomberman Hero got back to basics and more or less translated a typical 2D platformer into a 3D world. Tons of levels, lots of bosses, a good amount of variety. I think it's really underrated and probably unknown to a lot of people who wouldn't think of bomberman in that sort of game.

But whatever, my peace is said, the N64 library appeals to me more than Saturns. The saturn gets a lot of love I think because it didn't do so well and there's quite a few good games that aren't mainstream, the N64 on the other hand did very well, but has a relatively small library for such a successful system, therefore it gets some hate.

How the hell do you use the d-pad on that Hori controller? I mean, I know next to no games on the N64 really made use of the d-pad, and there was hardly any decent fighters, but still... Oh well, apart from that, it looks sweet as!

P.S. Why all the console hate? Lol is there anyone who can appreciate a console's pros without always comparing, hating and bitching? Playstation, Nintendo, Sony, Sega, Dreamcast, whatever, I love them all :P

The same thing could be said for the normal N64 controller.

Where is this thread even going?

But I guess I remain to be one of the few fans of Bomberman 64. That game was completely ... weird, hard as hell too (I cleared the special world), but dang I loved it. I only played a bit of Hero but remember not liking it nearly as much.

Wait for it, guys. I'm about to demonstrate how to hold an N64 controller.
I know, it sounds crazy, but it can be done!
Method #1 (The lesser used method)

This method allows you to use the D-pad and the A, B, and C Buttons!

Image

Method #2 (using the joystick)

This method allows you to use the joystick and the Z, A, B, C and R buttons with ease! (who cares about the L button?)

Image

Contrary to popular belief, when you want to switch from method #1 to method #2, all you have to do is move your left hand to the right about an inch, and voila!!!

This has been how to use an N64 controller 101 with harper. Thank you, come again.
But seriously, what's so fucking hard about it?

DinnerX approves of this post.

I wish more controllers went with the N64 general design. With every other design either the D-Pad or Analog stick is uncomfortable for me to reach. The problem is alleviated here because there are two handles.

Well said, I was just about to say the same thing and you made it even better by posting a demonstration lol.
