then you probably just don't like them. It happens.Jrecee wrote:Listened to it. Still don't get it. Sort of a mish-mash of sounds topped with off-key vocals.
Re: My Sonic Youth collection
That one was better. But I'm still getting a "punk vocals slowed down to the point that you realize their bad" vibe. I feel like this is probably a band that's hard to relate to if you weren't "there".EllertMichael wrote:Jrecee wrote:I've listened to a few of their songs but I don't get it. Hmmm, impressive, I am not much of a fan of them, but I do respect there place in the Alternative scene. All I can say that I might be the same with Nine Inch Nails, I pretty much buy anything NIN related.

SY fans should also be Eric's Trip fans.

It's cool that everyone has been open to listening to them. They're probably the "most accessible" art-punk band and made it pretty mainstream. I'm not a huge fan, but I love the early 80's no-wave stuff like confusion is sex and their self-titled.
http://youtu.be/elVZgK9ZRoE - Definitely not accessible, but I fricken' love stuff like this.
EM - funny you mention Eric's Trip. My friend who used to post on here (also a rabid SY fan) is a HUUUUGE Eric's Trip fan. All those lo-fi 90's bedroom pop bands are pretty cool. Boyracer comes to mind too.
Noise - check out Archers of Loaf if you haven't already. They are were (now reuinted) an amazing 90's "pop-punk" alternative band that took cues from sonic youth. This song rules.

fucking beautiful.
Their live album from this year blew my mind. Smart Bar 1985. Amazing. It's basically all Bad Moon Rising shit, but with Steve Shelly on drums. Incredible versions of "Halloween," "Flower," and "I Love Her All The Time."fvgazi wrote:It's cool that everyone has been open to listening to them. Thurston Moore was in my favorite band, Swans, for a little while. That's pretty cool.

Re: My Sonic Youth collection
the song "The World Looks Red" on SY's Confusion Is Sex was actually a song Gira wrote for Swans but discarded.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Thurston Moore was in my favorite band, Swans, for a little while. That's pretty cool.
