Quake was one of my favorite old school PC first person shooters. I have known for a while that a version exists on the Saturn and I have always wanted to play the game on a console.
I do know that a version also exists on the Nintendo 64 but I hate that piece of crap system and would rather not touch anything that worthless, overhyped pile of 64 bit shit has to offer.
So my question about the Saturn version of Quake.
1.Is it good?
2.Does it support the 3D control pad?
3.Is it better than the pathetic port of Doom on the Saturn?
4.Are decent copies of the game outrageously expensive?
5.Is it better than the Nintendo 64 version of Quake? Not that I would touch the Nintendo crap 64 version in any case but I am just curious.
Thanks.
How is Quake on the Saturn?

What's wrong with Doom on the Saturn? My Japanese copy is just fine!Busomjack wrote:Quake was one of my favorite old school PC first person shooters. I have known for a while that a version exists on the Saturn and I have always wanted to play the game on a console.

My favourite N64 game is either Sin & Punishment or O-Sumo Wrestling 64 2. What's yours? Quake is also very nice on it. I especially like that it has 4-players at once. The crappy Saturn console barely has any 4-player games. It's just utter crap. The battery always dies in it every few years, and the internal memory doesn't even hold all of my Working Designs published game saves. The Saturn is just a piece of crap, I think. I recommend you get an N64 instead. It has great RPGs like Zelda.

Re: How is Quake on the Saturn?
Oh yeah, that 4 player is great when everything looks like a smeared blurry piece of crap. Quake is great as a single player game anyways. Lots of traps, satisfying weapons, great H.P Lovecraftian atmosphere.Breetai wrote:What's wrong with Doom on the Saturn? The n64 is the reason Nintendo is no longer the dominant gaming company it was during the 16 bit era and it is the second worst console Nintendo has ever made next to the virtual boy.
The Saturn actually has more than 5 good games and it has real RPG's unlike Zelda.
Re: How is Quake on the Saturn?
Go play Sin & Punishment. Then come back and say that.Busomjack wrote:N64 games ...smeared blurry piece of crap.
Not that I don't like Arkanoid/Break-Out, but I think the vast majority of gamers would agree that a console with a selection of good games on interchangeable cartridges beats things like this:The n64 is the reason Nintendo is no longer the dominant gaming company it was during the 16 bit era and it is the second worst console Nintendo has ever made next to the virtual boy.

Re: How is Quake on the Saturn?
1. Yes, but it has a low framerate (22 or so fps average, hits the mid teens frequently). However, the updated art and lighting are very cool. I actually prefer the Saturn version's art to the original's!Busomjack wrote:Quake was one of my favorite old school PC first person shooters. 2. Yup, it even has a cheat code that enables Goldeneye style controls.
3. Very much so. However, the Japanese port of Doom is just fine icyww.
4. Nope. Sold my copy for $10 recently.
5. Very much so.
In regards to the N64 being generally poor in comparison to other Nintendo consoles. I'd agree. However, let's not get in a flame/fanboy war.

Re: How is Quake on the Saturn?
I was wondering about this game, too, because while I have the N64 version, I really dislike the N64 controller.

Re: How is Quake on the Saturn?
Ok that does it. I need to buy Quake on the Saturn! The playstation version of Quake II was an excellent port and it sounds like the Saturn version of the original Quake has many of the same qualities like updated lighting, effects etc. 22 frames per second is tolerable.

Re: How is Quake on the Saturn?
Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not paying $60+ for a controller. $10 for Quake on the Saturn seems a bit more reasonable.Breetai wrote:BurningDoom wrote:I was wondering about this game, too, because while I have the N64 version, I really dislike the N64 controller.

Re: How is Quake on the Saturn?
From what I understand, Quake on the Saturn was made by the same guys who made Powerslave and that is apparently a great Saturn first person shooter.
