What games are you looking forward to post E3?
I've got two 360s, and both are busted. One has the RROD. The other...honestly, it sounds like something is going wrong with the motor in the DVD drive. I've got a Hitachi GDR-3120L, too...it's a pain finding those for sale. Only two on eBay, and they're both in Britain, and I don't wanna have to shell out over 70 bucks and then wait as this thing clears customs. This 360 is way past warranty, so I'm just gonna have to open it up myself and either switch the drive out, or find out what's up and fix it. The machine still works...but it sounds like a jet engine when it's got a game in. It's bloody annoying.

The first PS2 models weren't very reliable indeed, specially the laser lens which were prone to wear out very quickly.
As for the 360, mine is one of the first models (2 months after launch) and with those it's not a matter of whether it's going to get the RROD or not, but when it's going to get it. Anyway, mine got it, went for repair, which took 2 weeks and a few days and to this day it's working like a charm, not to mention that I received one free month of Xbox Live, so it's not all bad.

I've been lucky with my 360 so far, and with me getting all achievements for long games like Bioshock, Mass Effect and Viva Pinata I feel like I have put in a fair amount of gaming time into it. It does freeze up sometimes, but I'm not sure if that's the system or the buggy games that I'm playing on it. I'm pretty used to freezes from my PS 2 and original Xbox so it doesn't faze me anymore.
I have never bought a Sony console to this day that I have not had to replace, so I doubt the PS 3's reliability. Sony has a rep for this too, there have been lawsuits. I think all modern consoles not made by Nintendo are somewhat unreliable though. There you go, I said something nice about Nintendo. I've heard very few stories about people having issues with the Wii, and my refurbished Gamecube has to this day never given me any problems. Although in fairness, it hasn't been used as much as my PS 2 and Xbox since the Gamecube, like the N64 before it, only has a small number of must play titles. Remember the S-NES days? Where you had TONS of quality software, now it seems like whenever a new Nintendo console comes out you can only expect a small number of great games, and most of them are the usual first party mascot titles that Nintendo keeps making over and over and over again(Zelda, Mario and Metroid).

Ok, so 1 out of the two you purchased broke. That isn't good. Even if it was an easy fix for you, the mass market isn't going to want to break warranty and risk screwing everything inside of it up, even if it is just a little gear.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?

In later models the laser is hell to calibrate. Although I'm not an expert by any means, I had opened all my consoles before for small fixes and when I finally opened my PS2 a couple of months ago to calibrate the laser it took me more than an hour to finally figure how to do that (instead of the giant screw in the first models, it had 2 hidden screws that had to be adjusted at the same time...)

Bumping this since we got another E3 since the time I originally started this thread. With all the hardware stuff going on at E3, you can just talk about actual games you're looking forward to here. I'm still checking out some E3 trailers but I'm pumped for Arkham City, The Darkness II, Starfox 64 3D, Sly 4, Awesomenauts and new Luigi's Mansion

Nothing Sony showed me interested me. Nintendo has me foaming at the mouth (though no Metroid?) and I am eagerly waiting to see what Capcom offers up.
Oddly enough, I think I am the most excited for the downloadable Zelda: Four Sword.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
