3DO Disc Problems

I decided to play my Panasonic 3DQo FZ-10 tonight, but I was greeted with a rather unpleasant problem. When I inserted a disc into the system, the system read the disc for about a minute or so, then ejected it. No data was loaded, and it stayed on the boot screen. I tried taking apart the system, but no immediate errors were found. I cleaned off the lens and messed with the position of the laser, which seemed to get the disc spinning faster for slightly longer, but still ejected the disc. What should I do?

Was there a non-normal whirring noise for that time? Maybe the belt is stretched and it never quite managed to close the door and lift the drive assembly, thus then gave up and ejected again.

There was a bit of a clicking noise before messing with it, and now there is an odd whirring noise.

That might be the motor furiously trying to do the last pull to get the spindle in position. If the belt has stretched and it isn't getting enough traction, it might be slipping, then eventually gives up and ejects. If you pop off the cover, then try to help it and it then closes and works, definitely the belt.

I finally found the right screwdriver to open up the system, and found that the laser still works just fine, and the disc spins, but the laser doesn't move along the track. What does that mean?

Yeah, but it doesn't even look like the laser is trying to move on track. There's no sounds that indicate that it's resisting or anything.

Sounds like a slipped gear to me. Or the input has stripped on the gear.
