Mario Tennis: Power Tour for the Game Boy Advance
The RPG starts right with powering up the game. You don't see a menu for exhibition or anything else until you've been through the first part of the story and saved/exited.
It is quite awesome.
What RPG are you playing right now?

Great game but that did confuse the hell out of me when I first played it. I didn't even know it was an rpg at the time. It was a pretty wtf moment but in a good way. I was very pleased to find out it was an rpg.retrosportsgamer wrote:Mario Tennis: Power Tour for the Game Boy Advance

Yep, that is the one. I had my friend play with Karol and spammed fire with everyone, and after a few more tries managed to take him down (with everyone alive and +5 Grade to boot!)MrPopo wrote:Is it the wolf boss? If so, yes, he's abnormally hard.dunpeal2064 wrote:Got sick this weekend and could not play a shmup for the life of me, so decided to pick up Tales of Vesperia after it was suggested to me by many folks.
got about 5 hours in the first day, which is the longest I have played a game straight since I can remember. I really like this game, and I was not a huge fan of Symphonia, which is the only other Tales game I have played.
However, I did hit a wall of a boss, killed me like 10 times so far. Either I suck at this game, or this boss is abnormally hard.
Fought 2 more bosses since then, and that wolf was definitely out of place.
Really liking this so far though, I've never really gotten into a Tales of game before, although I did try Symphonia a bit. Might have to go check out the other games in the series now.

I'm playing some Mother 3 right now. Good stuff.
I wish it had come to the States... oh well. Good thing it has been translated.

And the Japanese cart is so prohibitively expensive that I've never played anything but the ROM.Opa Opa wrote:I'm playing some Mother 3 right now. Good stuff.

I've been neglecting my GBA, so today I've started playing Golden Sun. Seems pretty sweet so far, I like the battle system and everything, but I haven't gotten into it too deeply yet.
Out of curiosity, how long does this game take to complete?

The origina; is pretty short, I'd place it at 10 minimum, 20 maximum, depending on what you go for and how fast you move through the game. It's sequel is likely 2 to 3 times that length though, and the story continues between the games, so to see the full story you're looking at a reasonable time investment.eskil wrote:I've been neglecting my GBA, so today I've started playing Golden Sun. Ah, Mario Tennis Power Tour and Golden Sun. Both developed by Camelot and both with an insane amount of dialog. I tried to play Tennis once. I am not exaggerating in the slightest when I say I played it for 20 minutes without seeing any actual tennis before turning it off.
Golden Sun isn't as bad, but it loves to constantly ask you inane questions that have no effect on the dialog tree. You see this within the first few seconds of the game when your mother asks if you are ready to go. If you say "no", she says "too bad, let's go". Why did she even ask?
Here are more actual examples of in-game superfluousness:
<wizard> Oh, these are the powerful jewels. Do you want me to tell you more about them?
Yes/No?
<you> Yes.
<wizard> There's no time for that. Let's go.
Another example:
<wizard> These are the powerful jewels. Have I ever told you about them?
Yes/No?
<you> Yes. (attempting to skip the full explanation)
<other party member> WAIT, YOU NEVER TOLD MEEEE!
Wizard proceeds with full explanation…
I never did finish the game, but I had counted 12 instances of this useless dialog at that point.

Same with Mario Tennis - I don't know if they are warming you up for more important questions and storyline branches later or what. Man that Ace is such a nag!Golden Sun isn't as bad, but it loves to constantly ask you inane questions that have no effect on the dialog tree. I've been upping her stats fairly even though I'm not doing anything doubles-related yet. Part of me wanted to just blow her off and super level up for singles play but I doubt that will help later on

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I fired up Final Fantasy II (GBA) last night. It is part of my "summer challenge" and it is the only one of the first ten Final Fantasy games that I have yet to complete. It is quite simple, and I am enjoying it so far. (I particularly enjoy the fact that I can save anywhere...which is such a key feature for a portable RPG.)
