Favorite fighter outside the major series

Post by marurun »

Yeah, I'm sure we've been down these walks before, but it's in my head. Sure, everyone talks about Street Fighter or the VS games, or Virtua Fighter or Tekken, or even Fatal Fury or KOF. But what fighter do you like that falls outside the big names?

I'm a fan of Waku Waku 7. It's just fan-damn-tastic. The characters are crazy, to boot. I also like Flash Hiders on the PCE, even though it's not a balanced, tournament worthy fighter. Sega's Last Bronx is also pretty fun, despite appearing plain on the surface.

Arcana Heart for me.

Waku Waku 7 is fun but not a favorite of mine. I guess I like the characters in WW7 more than the gameplay. I definitely need to check out more Saturn era fighters.

Some that come to mind..... Power Stone, Rival Schools, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, and while it may be considered mainstream it hasn't been revisited recently... Darkstalkers.

I would like to like Blazblue for its art style and amazing (and sexy as F!) characters but I simply don't enjoy the fighting mechanics of those games.

I've got the unheard of sonic council in my Saturn library I'm am eager to play still. It looks completely outside of the box....

Garou is naturally part of the Fatal Fury series, so I don't think it counts. I do agree about Power Stone, however. I didn't like the original Rival Schools much, but I did enjoy Project Justice on the Dreamcast.

I have been getting into Melty Blood recently. I also love me some Guilty Gear X.

Mark of the Wolves, Darkstalkers, Deadliest Warrior (it's fucking awesome, kind of reminds me of Bushido Blade)

Back in the arcade days, I have had my fun with SNK's Street Smart, karate champ
and Primal rage.

On the amiga there was Body blows (by team 17) which had my attention for a while.
I'd like to vent a bit for Rise of the Robots, being one of the most overhyped releases
ever, SUCH a disappointment
