Okay, that rocket barrel on DKC Returns... wow are those controls mutilated. Who programmed this, Donkey Kong himself? This game is like 50% fun, 50% pissing-me-the-hell-off.

One of my favorite opening themes ever. And I've always found this game to be a lot easier than part one too.
I got all happy just seeing this image. I love the NES Ninja Gaiden games so much!

Heh; this is the exact same feeling I had with the game. There are some levels that are really varied with interesting puzzles (like the third level I think in the third world - can't remember which exact one) and others that are just frustrating and kind of bland... I tended to think throughout the game that entirely different people were assigned to different levels.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Okay, that rocket barrel on DKC Returns... wow are those controls mutilated. I've been on a bit of a Ratchet and Clank marathon, playing the R and C Collection followed by Tools of Destruction. I have to say, it's only when you play a couple of Ratchet and Clank in succession do you realize that Insomniac has really done nothing to evolve the series. Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal and Tools of Destruction are practically the same game recycled three times. You see the same flaws pop up repeatedly too, like the ever shitty ship flying sections, which they put a new spin on in each installment, but they always suck royally regardless.

When I played them in succession, I was noticing how Insomniac was makig little tweaks here and there to make each one better than the last (mostly). The original is certainly the weakest of the main series, with simplistic story and dialogue and slower gameplay. Number 2 ratcheted up the humor, threw a twist or two into the story, and perfected the gameplay to its most addictive state ever. 3's gameplay is slightly less engaging than 2's, but it's the funniest game in the series.Gamerforlife wrote:I've been on a bit of a Ratchet and Clank marathon, playing the R and C Collection followed by Tools of Destruction. The reason Insomniac hasn't made any major changes to the formula is that it's pretty much fine. All that is needed are small adjustments.

I just started playing Ganbare Goemon 4 for the Super Famicom. Man, I was not expecting such a huge difficulty bump up from Legend of the Mystical Ninja.

A couple of obscure Genesis platformers: Jewel Master and Shadow Blasters.
Both are hard as balls.
