I wouldn't call complaining about major changes in art direction and the general athmosphere/tone of the game (Western Silent Hill games, modern Resident Evil games) or removing LAN/always-online DRM "whining for the sake of whining"
LAN was never the reason that StarCraft was popular, and anyone who claims otherwise is full of shit.

LAN probably didnt affect the popularity of SC or Warcraft 3 as much as unit/race balance, but playing D2 via LAN was very popular for a long time and a major reason why many people liked it so much.

Don't forget the narrow subset of video game collectors who want to be able to play their games even after it's not profitable for Blizzard to host Diablo 3 servers anymore. Or people who dont have the priviledge of stable/fast internet connection (US soldiers stationed in third world countries for example).

Thankfully Warcraft 3 servers are still up, but nowadays it's more like this

The tone and atmsophere is still Diablo. The art is just different.

I wouldnt call the always online to be DRM either. There are other things they use the always online for. Not needing separate characters for online and offline is nice

Gah! so we finally get to play together and her laptop cannot keep up in the heavier sections of the game when things get cluttered on the screen :( it turns into a slide show for her at the worst, and at best it gets around 20fps when connected to a game with me. Frys seems to be having some sales tomorrow...

Got Diablo III. Lots of fun so far. Plenty of mouse clicking and such.

Hmm, so anyone having issues with the chatting in co-op? Friends not receiving your messages or getting told they're offline when they're not... then we had issues setting up trades.

Hmmm. I haven't had any issues chatting in game, but then again, I don't even have any battle.net friends on this account yet.

None for me yet. I have had a little bit of lag occasionally.

Only issues I've had is random DCs that seem to happen most often when I'm playing solo and get mitigated if I regularly use chat; either sending or receiving messages. So in groups when party chat is used I'm fine, or if I'm whispering friends, or if I join general and ignore it.

Wait ... so you get disconnected less if you regularly use chat?
