controller questions for various sega consoles

Post by xraydash »

1. I picked up this nifty blue Dreamcast controller the other day. Searching around ebay I saw a yellow one too. That made me wonder, what other colors did Sega put out for DC?

2. Scored these Genesis controllers (asciiPad SG-6 and Sega 6 Button Arcade Stick MK-1627) at Goodwill today. Anyone ever use either of them? Thoughts? The asciiPad seems to be really high quality and feels great in my hands. I haven't had much of a chance to try them yet other than to see that they work.

3. And finally, what do you guys think of the Sega Saturn Virtua Stick? Is a new one worth $20 shipped? This person has a bunch of them for sale on ebay and I was thinking of picking one up.

1. The Dreamcast controllers also came in clear red, clear green, and clear black.

3. I have two of those sticks, the stick is very usable, although not quite arcade-perfect. The stick is a little tight and squeaky. But overall, definately worth it at that cost.

1. I remember seeing quite a few colours for those. I'm sure there were more, but I specifically remember Red, Blue, White (of course), Black (for the Sports Edition), and Green. I never saw a yellow one though.

2. The only Genesis controller I've ever used was the 6-button controller, so I can't comment on other controllers.
.
3. If you play alot of Fighting games, I'd buy it. I haven't seen any Virtua Sticks go for less than $35 (after converting from Euros).

Virtua sticks for 9.99 not bad. I have the other Genesis joystick, It's ok. Not super responsive for fighters or shumps. Great for rpg's or other non-timing sensitive games.

What about this one. Looks like a Saturn controller for the genny. hmm..

I have an official arcade stick like that for the Genesis with 3 buttons and the turbo in a different place. I love it! Definately my favorite genesis controller!

Thanks for the helpful responses everyone.

To answer one of my own questions, here's a quick a dirty collage of all the first party DC controllers I was able to google:

01) I'd say that the previous post pretty much has this one covered.

02) I really need to stop by Goodwill. I always hear about them having stuff like this. I'm tempted to buy the controller on the bottom of the pic, as it looks like it'd be really comfortable.

03) I've heard that it's vastly inferior to this version, but I suppose that it couldn't be absolutely terrible. I've never really been a huge fan of arcade sticks, though, so I'm not the one to ask for this.

There are around 20 different DC colour schemes for the controller. There was another thread on here where we discussed how many different colours of console there are and it was over 20 as well.

For that particular Sega Saturn "Virtua Stick" - you couldn't PAY me to use it. Either pay more for the good sticks or stay with the unbeatable Saturn pad.

Ah, okay. Found that thread. Sorry for the redundancy. I was on vacation then and missed that discussion.

Good to have your opinion about the Virtua Stick. I should probably take a pass on it...
