What platformer are you playing now?
Re: What platformer are you playing now?
I picked up a PS3 at a pawn shop in Vancouver. I got Pixeljunk Eden and have been playing it pretty steady. It has "floaty physics" like Super Meat Boy, but a little less gravity, and you stick to most of the environment. Also you control your jumping angle with the analog stick. The goal is to use your spiderman-like web to swing around gathering pollen to "bloom" the plants you need to access the higher parts of the area. Getting combos in your enemy killing is key to winning. Very well-built vector gaming that's pretty addicting.

NOTE: When I mention "Ninja Gaiden" here, I am talking about the original NES games. So you whippersnappers, try not to get confused. I feel it's ridiculous that Tecmo re-used the game title, but that is a topic to discuss elsewhere.
I gave Vice: Project Doom another try, and it was as bad as the first time I tried it a few months ago. Back into the trade box it goes.
Since Vice was… ahem… "inspired" by Ninja Gaiden, it inspired me to give the classic another try. I have always loved and played the game. I'm sure I completed it dozens of times when I was young, and could complete it without continuing. I wasn't able to do so this time. I can get to Act VI before dying, but I haven't mastered that section yet. I completed the game last night and immediately moved on to the sequel.
So, I am currently playing Ninja Gaiden II. I know everyone says it is more difficult than the first, but I found it much more easy. I was able to blaze my way to Act IV without hesitation. In the first game, it felt like I had to memorize enemy locations and be more cautious. Here, I just keep running forward, killing everything and not caring what weapon I get. Sure, there is the wind and the darkness to hold me back, but it has little actual effect on your play once you know the pattern. I do admit that the challenge went up in Act IV, and I will clearly have to play more conservative and memorize enemy patterns from this point on.

Me too.

One of my favorite opening themes ever. And I've always found this game to be a lot easier than part one too.

Me and a buddy thoroughly dominated Mario Wii. Got all the gold coins and 5 stars on our profile. excellent 2D platformer. I'd rank it right up there with SMB3 and super Mario World.

I've picked up some decent looking platformers recently. Currently I've been playing Psychic World on Game Gear. Not a bad game, but the Game Gear is such a subpar piece of hardware... I may just end up finishing it on an emulator.
On deck I have Donkey Kong Country Returns and Trine. I'm in the mood to play some platformers, I'm a bit burned out on all the JRPGs.

I hate the Wiimote/nunchuck control scheme of Donkey Kong Country Returns. Feels incredibly awkward. Might try the sideways Wiimote next time I play.
Every Wii platformer should have Classic Controller compatibility!!!

Same here too. That game would've been perfect if you didn't have to shake the damn wiimote to roll. I got used to it, though.
Re: What platformer are you playing now?
I just started up Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack on the PS Vita. It is pretty darn fun so far, a little bit Katamari-esque.

I tried DKC Returns with the sideways remote and it just didn't feel right. I enjoy being able to have my arms at my sides while sitting on the couch.
The plot in Ninja Gaiden II is pretty stupid compared to the first game. In the first game, I felt like I was actually rushing through, chasing after the statues and such. Everything felt like it happened in real time. The sequel kind of reminds me of Vice Project Doom, in that I start with randomly killing people and then the plot is all over the place.
