I bought 4 more dreamcast games today.

As I said earlier, I've been contemplating this for a while, so the timing of this topic was convenient, but I seem to be pushing towards dreamcast pretty hard at the moment.

I'm not sure what's fueling the fire, but I'm enjoying it just the same.

I'd like a complete set of North American SNES JRPGs some day. Thankfully I already own some of the more expensive games: Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, FF II/III/Mystic Quest, Breath of Fire, Secret of Mana... On the other hand I am missing some of the other rare/pricey games: Breath of Fire II, Lufia I & II, Harvest Moon, EVO, Ogre Battle...

I'd also like to eventually obtain all the "essential" Japanese Super Famicom JRPGs that were never released here (trying to get all of those JRPGs would be insane). I recently ordered Seiken Densetsu 3, Star Ocean, and Tales of Phantasia. I'd eventually like to get Bahamut Lagoon, Sailor Moon, Tactics Ogre, Terranigma, and a few more.

This is gonna take some time, obviously.

Also, for the record, I am trying to obtain a complete NES collection including all major label variants. I am also trying to obtain a complete set of complete Sega Master System Games. (I need 101 NES games and 48 SMS games to complete my collections.)

I may also try to obtain a complete set of complete Arcadia 2001 games at some point. I purchaed a system and ten complete games at an antique store last year for $35, and - since there are only 22 games available for the system - I may try to track down the other twelve. (They are incredibly obscure, however; so, if I try to track them down, I will likely have to purchase them on eBay...<shudder>.)

Oh wow, you're pretty close then...

Thanks.

I am pretty close. Unfortunately - with a few exceptions - it seems that the only games I left to acquire are either rare, valuable, or both. Since I mostly buy games "in the wild", the rate at which I am acquiring new NES games has slowed to a crawl. I took some pictures of the collection a while back, but I need to update them. I would like to start a collection thread at some point.

Are you just going for licensed or are you trying to find all the unlicensed stuff too?

I am trying to acquire everything. (I think that the NES has such an interesting library, and the unlicensed games are one of its most interesting aspects.) Unless I win the lottery, however, it is very doubtful that I will ever acquire some of the truly "rare and valuable" titles (i.e., I do not see a Nintendo Wolrd Championship cart in my future). I think that I would rather spend that kind of money sending my children to college, and I am fairly certain that my wife would kill me if I spent $1000 on a video game.

Since I enjoy hunting games in the wild, I am not in a hurry to finish off the collection; so, I have some time to keep looking for those carts at flea markets, yard sales, pawn shops, and thrift stores. I only see my self spending serious money on any particular NES game once I have acquired nearly everything else on my epic "want list". There are simply too many good, inexpensive games out there for me to justify spending serious money on an obscure title.

When the DS first launched, my initial intent was to collect every single game as it came out... needless to say, that didn't pan out so well. I've even (regrettably) sold many of my favorites on the system.

Still though, it would've been pretty cool - I guess. But there are just too many crap games out there for any system that I'd never feel the need to catch 'em all.

Do you just mean things like both versions of Metroid, Pac-Man, and perhaps things like Impossible Mission II, or do you also mean things like Oval and Round seal variants of Konami games? Just curious.
