ugh. the rumors are true.

‘Community’ Creator Dan Harmon Is Replaced as Show Runner
Mr. Harmon, a comedy writer whose credits include “The Sarah Silverman Program” and the animated feature “Monster House,” will be replaced by David Guarascio and Moses Port, who have been producers on TV comedies like “Happy Endings” and “Just Shoot Me.”

I've tried to get into Community, but haven't enjoyed what I've seen I've seen of it. I may give it one more shot with this episode

This show is awful, all the humor is so basic and cliché. Even in this episode they just throw in the most obvious and tired video game related jokes, and of course make references to such obscure titles as Sonic and Mario. Same as every time when TV shows make video game themed episodes.

Seriously they should just not try at all if that's the best they can do. I think that the same show (or one out of the 20 different CSI shows) had another episode about MMORPGs where that goth chick who works at the lab was "playing a MMORPG" (ie smashing the keys so hard that every one within a 5 mile radius can hear it and narrates what she is doing to herself "OOH THAT DAMN ORC DODGED MY SPELL!!! HURRY, I AM ALMOST AT THE TREASURE CHEST!!!")

But I doubt that many young people watch TV these days, so the antiquated view on gaming these shows have reflect the target audience

It's a community college show, not a video game show. The fact that they don't makes some ultra obscure reference to something like Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom does not mean that it isn't a funny comedy show. I don't know how you can claim that this is a clichéd show either. They've got fresh jokes left and right, and how many other television shows out there would even dare to structure an entire episode around a game of pen-and-paper Dungeons & Dragons?

(the correct answer is none)

The Big Bang Theory
The Guild
South Park
Robot Chicken
Futurama
Freaks and Geeks

Other shows do stuff like this. South Park had a World of Warcraft episode and another one that played out like the boys were in a Japanese anime. Big Bang Theory does stuff like this all the time and had an episode built around a Magic the Gathering-like collectible card game. Futurama had Gary Gygax in one episode and had another episode built completely around video games in a video game world. Robot Chicken references every nerdy thing under the sun. Buffy the Vampire Slayer showed a group of characters playing D & D in a funny scene in season 7. Freaks and Geeks had an episode called Discos and Dragons. We even see Alice Cooper playing D&D in That 70s Show.

Difference is, those shows are actually funny. Community just thinks it is

Don't worry J T. I'll get your back! I find the show hilarious and havnt missed (or been disapointed by) an episode since I discovered it.

And yes I saw the video game episode and loved every ridiculous second of it! Not my favorite episode, but definitely up there.
