I feel the problem with the OP is that the issues mentioned are not directly related to modern "dudebro" games. They are just issues with games in general. The 8-bit era was packed with games trying to emulate the arcade experience. Arcade games were all fairly similar at the time. Also, the hardware was only capable of rendering certain types of games. It took custom chips in NES carts to enable something as "simple" as multi-directional scrolling!
The 16-bit era opened up quite a bit, and you don't have the heavy focus on certain genres or designs. Everyone played everything since it was all new to us! The average gamer's collection had sports, shooters, RPGs, adventures, platformers, and so on. Nothing was off the table.
In a way it is a shame that we have such powerful hardware now so dominated by similar first-person shooters. Imagine older-style games reprogrammed for our current hardware. Games like the SSI Gold Box AD&D adventures, Master of Magic, X-Com, Under a Killing Moon, Ultima, Stonekeep…

Your post seems the most logical, half of the others are just all "only geeks played games GTFO" or "STFU NOOB YOU WERE BRON IN THE 90s" elongated into a paragraph or two
But yeah, arcade games being similar and console gaming inheriting the same hindrance until the 4th generation makes a lot of sense. Shame how far we've went backwards with Big Brown Military Shooter of the week.

I thought about this some more and I still couldn't come up with a dudebro game from that period. Even the nerdiest nerds played Madden or Joe Montana or Tecmo Bowl. I thought baseball was one of the most boring sports, and even I owned and loved Bases Loaded and Baseball Stars.

My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
