Technosoft did great stuff on the Genesis. On top of the ThunderForce games they also developed Herzog Zwei. Which while a bit dated is still a fun and interesting piece of RTS history.
Big fan of Ellis myself:

That level looked beautiful too, big waterfalls and stuff if I remember right. Gotta love it.

I really like Ellis too, not sure what my favorite level in TF III is, the volcano stage or the stage Ellis plays on. Speaking of TF III music, amazing remix:

I'd have to say I like the Soldier games more than Thunder Force too, as TF III and IV are the only ones I really like.

Fell in love with the series right away.

That might be my favorite SSH song in general. So damn good.

I made a thread about this game a few years ago (dear hell, time moves fast). I really hated the top-view stages but I adored the side-view stages. Since Xeogred mentioned the X68K version having the "camera" pulled out more I'll give that version a try. Besides, I've been on a bit of a X68000 kick lately. :D

Is Lords of Thunder better on Sega-CD or TG-16? If the latter, by how much is it better?

Most prefer the PC Engine version, including myself. The gameplay isn't any different in either version though.

The colors are noticeably sharper in the PC Engine version, and you can actually hear the amazing soundtrack. For whatever reason the sound effects in the Sega CD version are very loud and annoying, you can barely hear the music while you're shooting. Another thing worth noting is that both games feature different recordings of the same soundtrack. Both versions of the soundtrack have their own merits but I prefer the PC Engine one.

The last difference I can think of is the voice overs. The PC Engine and Sega CD version have voice overs, but when the game was brought overseas to the Turbo Duo, the voice overs weren't included. Not really a big deal at all though.
