I don't know what Age of Empires is?
I might go with the PC port of GTA Vice City so that I can try to join JT's screenshots club.
Age of Empires is an RTS by Microsoft studios. You may recognize it for this guy
VVVVVV actually wasn't that hard IMO, mainly because you have infinite lives.
Started my challenge today with Indigo Prophecy. This control scheme makes me want to hurt small animals. Especially the little Simon sequences that since I don't have a numpad I need to use my mouse for.

I will back this. I'd say playing through the first helps explain the underlying basics of the second game. Sure, it's not going to specifically tell you what the G Man is, but you'll have an understanding of how weird he can get. Plus, even for a nearly 15 year old FPS, it holds up quite well.
Ooph...nearly 15 years ago. That is a rough thought.

I am fairly certain we have forum members who were born after I graduated high school. That is a rough thought.
Ok, so I sat down with Castlevania 64 a bit more and managed to make a little more headway! It would seem that the second half of this game is a long stream of boss fights, as I managed to kill the giant bull, then fought a vampire while Death watched, then a stream of mini-bosses in the Dueling Tower.
Sadly the bosses weren't the hard part. It was the platforming that killed me the most. I discovered you could go back to the exit of the Dueling Tower for free heals and to use the save point right outside, but running the platforming gauntlet proved a pain in the ass. I just cannot tell the difference between what should be a successful ledge grab and what is not. The way I see it, if I jump at a ledge while holding the grab button, if I bump into it at a reasonable height, I should grab it. But the game seems to disagree, sending me plummeting to my death roughly 25 times over the last two hours. And that is not an exaggeration. In fact, I may be underestimating my death count, almost entirely due to the ledge grabbing mechanics not working the way I thought they were meant to. You know, I grab ledges for jumps I don't quite make? The only thing that seems to consistently work is my final step theory...which is, if it is the absolute final step you can take before plunging into the abyss, then and only then will Richter decide he needs to grab that ledge ahead of him. If you jumped half a step before though, Richter feels he must punish you because you didn't get your adrenaline pumping fast enough, subsequently falling to his doom.
But I made it through the Dueling Tower. Now I'm in the Tower of Execution, a lovely place with spinning blades, flying medusa heads, and lava. Lots of the stuff. My only reasoning is that Dracula and his BFF, Death, can fly, so they don't care about things like floors. Guess they don't have guests over often. I've made it about halfway through this tower though, so hopefully I'll put it past me after another couple of attempts. Despite the moving ledges and infinite seeking enemies, this tower gives off an easier vibe, mainly because the game lags, so everything goes a lot slower.

damn dude, was hoping you'd wait so we could play through this one around the same time.
Decided to redo my entire list basically. So far I have 9 titles I feel really good about. I want to make it a solid list (solid meaning entirely games I'm looking forward to playing). And also, as it is now these 9 are all pretty different genre-wise and it's about 50/50 indie games vs. commercial releases. So yeah. Help me decide on a 9th game. As it stands now my default will be Tyrian 2000 as there is no shmup on the list, and it seems like something you can play through rather than just for score? Though I think I want to keep shmups out of the list, as it's really my most played genre these days. Maybe there's some indie visual novel that's like a big cult classic or something? I'd like the 10th title to be an indie game if possible to keep the balance. But whatever, I'm open to suggestions to keep the list completely solid.

I can hold off until you're ready to play and work on Gemini Rue instead. But yeah, couldn't find my adapter so I'm using the keyboard.

There's always Katawa Shoujo. Might be a unique experience. Probably not as unique as Hatoful Boyfriend would be though!

I've beat Yume Nikki. You have to find all the Effects, then wake up and go out to your balcony to see the end sequence. The hardest effects to find are the ones in that damned Red Maze.
