Spoilers you wish hadn't been spoiled to you? (spoilers)

Post by noiseredux »

So what major spoilers have you come across before you played a game that you wished you hadn't? And in each case, did you then play the game knowing full well what had been spoiled for you, or did you avoid the experience altogether since it wasn't going to be a surprise to you?

We might as well use the Spoiler Tag, eh? Do it like this though: Put the title to the game and then use the spoiler tag for your little story, that way people can see the game title and know if they should open the spoiler tag or not.

For me:

Portal
I wish I didn't know that the cake is a lie. Stupid meme. I did start playing Portal since, but just knowing that gag at the end... it really kind of miffed me every time cake was mentioned because I'd think to myself "damn, that joke would have been really funny to me in the end." :?

Portal (reply to noise)
"The cake is a lie" meme also spawned "the cake really wasn't a lie" meme soon afterward, leaving me unsure when I started the game whether it was really a lie or not.

Bioshock
Would you kindly not mention the spoilers to the uninitiated?
I also had pretty much the entire plot of the first two Assassin's Creed games spoiled to me before playing, which kind of ruined it a bit for me, but the gameplay was fun enough that I didn't care.

Even the gaming press took part in the spoiling. It's a "spoiler" in the same sense that Darth Vader being Luke's father is a spoiler.

Phantasy Star II
I knew that Nei was going to die. :(
Final Fantasy VI
I knew that the world was going to be destroyed after the floating island section. Wish I hadn't known about that, it's such an amazing plot twist.

Yes yes. It's people. He's actually dead. It's a he. He already found his wife's killer. He was already at the airport. He was the driver all along. He never needed the ring. It was just a dream.

These should be vague enough that you only know what they are if you've seen the movies or been previously spoiled

I only recognize the "He already found his wife's killer" one. Good for me?
