None of that matters. If he sets windows to 640x480 the monitor will just do the same thing to the desktop. It is receiving a 640 image but doesn't know what to do with it. CRTs automatically scale as long as it is a frequency range it can handle. Changing windows settings won't do a thing to fix the problem. It is how the LCD is handling the incoming signal.

strangely it won't run in 98 mode, CRT. It works in Win7, but changing the compatability it flips out and thinks there isn't enough memory, haha.

May want to consult your monitor's manual. If that doesn't work, try messing with your monitor's settings. Some LCDs will show any resolution at "actual size" but you should be able to stretch it out if that's the case.

Is there any way to tell a graphics card to scale its output to a certain resolution? Seems like I've read about that somewhere. That would fix noise's problem.

I "Fixed" my wife's Desktop and two laptops all of which have LCDs. Two LCDs are 4:3 and one is a widescreen. I know what you mean though, the CRT G3 Mac would not display certain OS9 games on the external LCD, works fine with an external VGA CRT hooked up. But in this case the PC games can be adjusted.Hobie-wan wrote:@ CRT

Okay run it in the normal Win 7 mode but you need to tweak the two step video card setting I described in my previous reply. I looked up the game is it this one?noiseredux wrote:strangely it won't run in 98 mode, CRT. It works in Win7, but changing the compatability it flips out and thinks there isn't enough memory, haha.
Temporarily set the Win 7 Display to a resolution of 640x480 and 256 color thru the List All Modes, then select that Full setting in the Specific Card Setting Screen. Try running the game in both your higher resolution or preset at the 640x480 mark if it does not work.Rare PC Games wrote: http://www.rarepcgames.com/simulation-g ... er-section
System Requirements:
Windows 95/98
Pentium 90 or faster (166 Mhz or above recommended)
16MB RAM (32MB RAM recommended)
minimum 35MB free hard disk space
4x CD-ROM drive
100% DirectX compatible video card with 2MB or greater
256-color (640x480) or greater video monitor
100% DirectX compatible sound card
DirectX5 (included)
There is also a command line file program that can be downloaded to automatically adjust and return the screen. Very non intrusive, can be combined with loading a game, so no extra clicking is needed once it is set. I use it for DOS Box with older games and it works very well. I really really need to get cracking on the DOS Box Guide.

Ok, see if you have a graphics tray icon. There may be a setting in there that causes it to display everything at native with borders. My AMD card did this until I changed the setting. Should be like "Scale image to monitor size" or something like that.

You've got an nvidia card right? Open up the nvidia control panel and see if there are any options about scaling. Should be under display options or something. Might have to turn on advanced options somewhere idk.
I'm using integrated amd right now sadly, so I can't guide you through.
EDIT: So what ryan said basically.

Re: noiseredux's PC gaming need help thread
yeah it's an NVidia 9600 GS. I'll mess with it at some point again I guess. But most likely I'll either (A) play the game as is, or (B) end up finding Taito Legends 2 for PC which was a newer release that contained Layer Section and will probably play nicer with newer hardware.
I don't mind having to jump through some hoops to get the game to work better, but I don't want to have to change global settings everytime I play the one game y'know?

Hmmm. If you decide to play a lot of doujin games you'll want to change your system locale to Japan eventually.noiseredux wrote:yeah it's an NVidia 9600 GS. Definitely gotta get you into some of the good ones like Hellsinker, Trouble Witches, Crimzon Clover, etc.
Re: noiseredux's PC gaming need help thread
You don't have to, just go thru the steps one time, the PC will "remember" your adjustments. Any 640x480 game will display in full once you tweak the settings. Your default screen resolution won't be affected, just the fix applied to the lower resolution. All you have to do is temporarily set the display to 640x480 thru List All Modes, then choose the FULL or Stretch option in the NVidia Menu.noiseredux wrote:yeah it's an NVidia 9600 GS.
