I wasn't giving you rubbish... you cited Shmups forum rather than mentioning your own experience.
It's hard for me to take you word on any game you think is "good", but what's your point here?
I don't know why you're being kind of a jerk here. I don't think I said anything to attack you. (?)

You cited an article on Racketboy as a counter to my statement that SSF has a lot of input lag. That is precisely why I mentioned that SSF is known to have input lag issues. There are threads on the shmups forum about it and elsewhere.

And you are correct. I was out of line. It's just frustrating when you continually toss my personal experiences aside because I often cite other people's personal experiences in addition to my own. And you would be correct in that sometimes I read about issues with a game and choose not to buy it because of that. So I assume you're referring to Under Defeat and SFxT. I like to know what I'm getting. And perhaps I show bias against Capcom and G.Rev in general. Luckily, in the case of UD, there is at least a solid DC port.

I see where Brad is coming from, Erik.

You do have a habit of linking shmups / shoryuken threads quite a bit. In many cases it's fine, and relevant, but often the OP, in this case Brad, was looking for boots-on-the-ground info - obviously he can google search elsewhere, but wanted to hear first-hand from people he knows more personally.

For my preferences, I love fighters, but i'm not a pro. So while I might appreciate the expertise of the folks on shoryuken, I at times take their opinion as a grain of salt - for that exact reason, they are commenting from a pro's perspective, i'm looking for a comment from the perspective of someone I know and feel will be able to more accurately comment on what i'm really wanting to know.

You have a ton of info to offer, particulary on cosplay / anime / shooters / pc gaming, etc and i'd much rather read a post of yours in regard to that, than defending the thoughts of other folks in other threads, if that makes sense.

Before I was a game collector, I did almost nothing but emulation for a few years... My thoughts:

Kega Fusion is great, glad to see you've got it.

Magic Engine is really the only viable choice for PC Engine CD/Turbo CD emulation, in my opinion. Unfortunately, it's not free. I have used a free emulator (Ootake) in the past but it frequently crashed and was laggy at times. That was years ago though, you may have better luck with it.

FreeDO is the only 3DO emulator I know off. It's not 100% complete and I've never had good results with it. Don't bother.

I never got into Dreamcast emulation, so I don't really have an opinion on that.

And I'm assuming you have no interest in PS1/2 emulation...

I read the other posts in this thread and for what it's worth I've never had much luck with SSF. I have it installed in two different computers (one "regular" Dell laptop and one tricked-out gaming PC), I've messed around with the settings multiple times, and I still find it a tad laggy and awkward. I'll use it for RPGs but that's it.

Good luck!

Well I use SSF as well. It may be better than an actual Saturn, or at least MY Saturn. I recently bought Panzer dragoon zwei and it keeps crashing on my Saturn when I get past the first cut scene. I was extremely pissed because I really wanted to play it. Today I decided "Hmm I wonder how this works on an emulator" I put my CD in my laptop's disk drive, started up SSF and the game worked! No crashing, the levels loaded up the way they should and I have no problems with it. Works well with my 360 controller!

Interesting! I've got a real soft spot for the 3DO, and I've got myself a mighty fine FZ-1, but being able to emulate them would be fantastic. Unfortunately, this release is still Windows only, and I hate having to boot into XP. Patience!

@Noise you should make this the official legit CD+emulation thread, keep the top post updated with the relevant emulators, any settings, etc.

And though I'm not sure how many Mac users there are around these parts, Kega Fusion unfortunately doesn't support the disc drive on the mac as of yet, unless someone's found a means of doing it, it's iso only. Still a great emulator though!
My Want List!

Consoles: Sega Master System, NES Toploader, Genesis/32X, Sega CDX, SNES, 3DO FZ-1, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast, Sony PS2, Nintendo Gamecube, Xbox Halo Edition, Wii, PS3
Handhelds: Atari Lynx, Sega Nomad, Neo Geo Pocket Color, GBC (Atomic Purple, Pokemon Edition), GBA (Pink OG, Silver SP, Spongebob SP+), DS (Phat, iXL), 3DS, PSP (1000, Go)

probably a good idea! I'll try to compile it when I have the time.

4DO looks interesting, thanks Sev. :)

As far as TurboCD goes, Magic Engine gets a lot of raves. How much is it? Has anyone found a free option that's as good?

What about NeoGeo CD emulation?

I think I paid $30 for Magic Engine back in 2010...

Give Ootake a shot before Magic Engine. I never liked it, but you might have more luck...

actually noise you should just get a PC Engine Duo... :)

Ootake works fine with HuCard roms, CD rips, and CD's in the disc drive.
So I recommend that over paying for Magic Engine.
