But yes, you are missing out big time if you stick to JRPGs on the PC. You might try some of the early western RPGs that inspired JRPGs, eg Ultima IV.
Knights of Xentar is fantastic, as good as nearly any SNES JRPG. Surprised people don't talk about it more often.

GOG just re-released a game called "Silver" that looks like a JRPG. I had never heard of it, but I guess it's a Eurpean-made game that is trying to be like Final Fantasy VII.

Also, since this thread started, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, Chantelise, and Fortune Summoners have all been released on Steam. Anachronox was released on GOG.

I played Silver back in the day. It also came out on consoles. It is a good game. It is action, not turn based so I wouldn't say it is trying to be like FF VII other than perhaps on looks etc.
