Raiden III! Great choice! Such a cool ode to Seibu, and a gnarly challenge.

Not sure if you already know this, but Castle Shikigami II also has a TATW mode. Its a great port.

Take a look at the cradle at the base of this WEGA, imagine the strain sitting sideways.

I don't think I'd want to turn a 180+ pound TV on its side to begin with...

It is a workout to move, hope I never have to move neither again.

I should put some type of cushion behind it to reposition the tv.

Don't cover up too many vents so the TV can still breathe. It might not be doing so as efficiently on its side so at least make sure it can still breathe.

A very good point. I started thinking about the vents, maybe an issue of heat dissipation when rotated? The "D" and "A" boards will be sitting vertical, the large black capacitors sitting sideways next to each other. Heat rising off the internal parts differently when the TV is rotated?

This brings another thought. On both the WEGA I repaired and the model I recently purchased, the insides were dusty, but not heavily as the top of the cover. I gave both a good dust out, wonder now if the dust buildup would be worse with the slots exposed in the TATE position. The grill angles are designed for ventilation and maybe dust shields only in the normal position? The JVC I pulled to make room for the WEGA had no top vent slots at all, only grates on the sides. I imagine that internal dust would be worse if the JVC was in TATE position.

Probably of little consequence but factors to consider, any heat buildup is bad in light of the fact good CRTs will continue to be harder to get. Any TV should have the cover pulled to verify the mounts would hold for TATE, a good opportunity to dust out anyways.
