SHumps + Tate CRT TV?

Post by benderx »

Has anyone ever Tate there crt TV on its side. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly results tateing TV? Well I have a couple of PS2 shumps that have the option to tilt side ways from the option menu. Are there any racketboy topics on this? Just curious to do this my sony tv WEGA. I know my TV has curve slanted edges. Any advice before going ahead. I'm probably going to do this tate a few times only because I play other games than just shumps. but putting a on its side for shumps is very interesting. I'm also thinking of getting s 20-26inch hdtv someday.

make sure your television is OFF when turning it on its side.
leave it OFF on its side for a good 15 minutes to degauss before turning it on.

protip: just get a dedicated TATE television. :P

I have a 20 inch and 27 inch that I take, making sure a 15 minute period has gone by since it was last on, and I've never had any issues. My 27 inch is slanted on the side, so I put support underneath and lean it on the wall, for that slanted arcade feel.

Ibelieve that if you have poor shielding, your speakers may cause some discoloration, but I'm not positive on that.

It really does look gorgeous though.

Okay I did it, tate screen. Its seems to be okay after letting it rest on its for 15 min wait. I think the only bad thing that happened to me was I starting to get a headache probably because I was trying to pictures while playing the game at the same time. overall thank you in this thread. I thought namco collection had the tilt mode but no, it would have been fun to play ms pacman and dig dug like the original arcade way. Also it felt awkward playing because the TV is tilted a little more upward. I should put some type of cushion behind it to reposition the tv.

I pulled a Repair on my HD WEGA, you can see the inner workings back at the Guide to get an idea if safe to be rotated. I emphasized the the fragile state of the housing if rotated. Be careful with CRTs, especially the heavy ones. Some sit on a cradle in the normal position, could crack off the mounts if rotated.

Twenty Dollar Repair Guide: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 37#p458437

THERE ARE NO SIDE SUPPORTS FOR A TATE POSITION
Take a look at the cradle at the base of this WEGA, imagine the strain sitting sideways.

Don't cover up too many vents so the TV can still breathe. It might not be doing so as efficiently on its side so at least make sure it can still breathe.

I don't think I'd want to turn a 180+ pound TV on its side to begin with...
