I am skipping all the stuff in this thread and just posting a reply to the OP.
WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THIS ONCE GREAT SERIES!
In the same way Allied Assault (Made by the same crew that created the original COD) set the tone for games to rip off for the next few years (WW2 shooters) MW1 did the same thing to the FPS genre and had everyone trying to base there games off 'Modern Shooters' and 'blame the Russians' shooters., next up is future shooters (not a joke, look at the next few 'big' shooters coming out), the trends of a genre go in full circles, much like 'great series' do as well.

Game 1 - Amazing concept! Amazing Game, WOW!

Game 2 - Wow how did they manage to add more to the game but somehow feel
like they bettered the first, THIS IS AMAZING!

Game 3 - Okay they added some more refinements, but everything just feels 'bigger' still a great game, but starting to feel like more of the same old thing.

Games 4-10 with annual installments - Bleeding the series dry to get money off the famboys and those that hope they can somehow get back to there former glory, eventually leading to the death of a franchise that was once a powerhouse!

WILD CARD GAME 11 / GAME1 - Remake / Reboot same game mechanics / idea in a new settings.

Examples: Medal of Honor, Tony Hawk, Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Prince of Persia, Assasins Creed is starting to do it, etc ,etc

Activision are the kings of driving games into the ground.

Everyone tries to mimic the current 'big game' to the point where people don't want that style of game anymore, Pacman clones, space invaders clones, mario clones, ww2 shooters, modern shooters, zombie games.

Long and pointless rant, enjoy.

PS: I would never try to measure your cock by talking about how many games you own, never goes down well.

I've read through this entire thread and I'm still not sure what the problem is. You want more WWII shooters?

There was a supersaturated market of WWII FPS games between the very late 90's and mid 2000's (about 5-8 years worth). This was before the most of the "modern" developers had developed a way to make the FPS on a console a viable option. PC was the way to go for FPS and for the most part it still is. During that time period, the PC market was full of people who could afford to put the money into the hardware to run a FPS. Consoles were "inferior" at that point. Come 2004+ and all of a sudden next gen consoles have the multi-player, hardware, and "decent" control scheme to shift the FPS over. Subsequently, the past 5 years had already too many WWII shooters and people were bored to death with them. Not too be age prejudiced, but near the end of the WWII FPS cycle you were literally about 6 or 7 years old. I don't remember playing my first FPS games until the age of 11 or 13. That clearly has to have an affect on how you view this distortion as I see it.

recently the mass market has shifted to consoles, as you can get rivaled gameplay that of a PC and appeal to the casual gamer. More people are exposed to the genre. Also 9-11, war in Afghanistan, and the "imminent North Korean threat" happened; people went all patriotic. This shifted to the "modern warefare" (no pun intded) scenario. Here we are with many FPS games set in the not too distant future... ahh remember in the late 80s and early 90's with games set in 19xx? Yeah... same thing is happening here but the stories are more plausible with the rapid creation of new technology.

So.... what exactly is your problem with the Modern Warfare games, pankakes123? There are a myriad of WWII games that already exist. Why do you want more?. I don't even see so much difference between CoD2 and the current state of things. Being a huge retro gamer, I still enjoyed the first two MW games. Seems pretty regular FPS to me.

HOLY CRAP! This is what I mean! Have you guys banded together to try and drive me off this site or something? Honestly, this site is usually super friendly. What the hell is going on here? I really like this site and I've now tried literally everything to just get you guys to lay off. WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME! Seriously guys, have a heart. I don't just have a lot of games damnit, I play a lot! I love gaming! Why is that something that must be judged and evaluated all of a sudden?
Well, I agree with BoringSupreez... but that criticism could have been worded a bit better.

Yes we see you have a good collection and appear to love games. That however, doesn't make you an expert of any sort. Tons of people go out and buy sports cars without even knowing how to change their own oil. Just owning the car doesn't make you an expert on driving technique or mechanics.

That's what we're trying to say here. Nobody doubts your love of games, but, you need to understand it doesn't make you an expert and just because Doom and Quake weren't your thing doesn't mean they somehow weren't influential. They may have not been an influence to you, but to the gaming industry as a whole, they definitely were more so than the original Call of Duty and Medal of Honor. Not saying there weren't a ton of the games, because there were, but they certainly didn't impact the industry like Doom, Quake, Goldeneye, and Halo did. They were far from revolutionary, and were just a fad. Much like modern combat FPS's are now.

Also at o.pwuaioc, while I mostly agree with you, you do have this habit of being on a high-horse (and sorta being an asshole) when displaying your opinion on certain things.

All the other talk about Quake, Doom and Half-Life not being influential makes me just want to play them right now to wash all that away.
Dude I have read your other forum posts, your a cool guy. Don't stoop down to this level. If you really did read the whole thing then you would know... Nope, not gonna explain it again. Explanation was a page ago.
Well thanks
I'll be the "cool guy" I guess and give you some "cool" advice. Chill a bit and take a step back.

The whole thread really got off track when you got offended that people commented that your age my have something to do with you not understanding how certain games played an influence. I don't think anyone called you a dopey kid or anything that just stated a generalization. You also topped that off by trying to muscle superiority by claiming you have lots of games and make online videos. The pictures of you games does not help either. It lacks tact, and is a bad way to prove anything. It is like that guy in a group who thinks he knows everything about the world because he reads a lot. The person may be smart but you can't learn and understand everything in the world by reading and having a lot of literature.

I'm sure you do know things about games, gaming culture and game history. But don't ignore what someone is trying to tell you and strong arm proofs of intelligence.

When it comes to the FPS genre, the games that have been listed 20x at this point did influence FPS games on consoles despite them being developed for the PC first. Not even counting the ports the games themselves set up how FPS games were looked at and operated on a whole which is obviously a major factor. Plus, many developers have said and will tell you that they either try to best emulate, work around or improve on the Mouse and Keyboard control of a PC FPS.

Medal of Honor, Perfect Dark, Call of Duty, Goldeneye, Halo and more all had major influences on the console FPS yes but they exist because the classic PC ones. Heck Halo was developed with PC in mind first as well.

Current consoles still are inferioir. The technology is beginning to be very outdated, you can tell the difference in graphics. Like it's been said before, consoles can never match PC in this regard unless they become PC-like. Mouse for aiming, competetive scene, unlimited server hosting capabilities and ability to make all kinds of unofficial servers, being able to mod the game to your liking, make own maps, scenarios etc.

Ok ok. WHEN did I say I was an expert. I just made the topic to express how awesome CoD 2 is and how the series went down the toilet! I posted the pictures because I was desperate after being trolled to absolutely no end! Why are you guys even bringing up all these other FPS anyway! The thread is not about them, and I NEVER said they weren't influential!

It's sad because all these replies I'm getting are so ridiculously off topic that they've driven me completely off topic!

pankakes123 wrote: Sorry, I should have made this clear. I'm really focusing on console FPS here. I've never been a PC gamer, and games like Wolfenstein, Doom, and Duke Nukem were not very influential on console. Console was more based around CoD, Medal of Honor, a little Battlefield, Brothers in Arms, etc.
just sayin'
