Speaking of Batman, I've been trying to read up on all current Bat titles for the Night of Owls crossover. I have to say Catwoman and Red Hood and the Outlaws are just utter crap. Seriously. In Catwoman's case, I don't really care, as she's a shallow, dumb, morally reprehensible, immature character anyway whose ability to win over Batman's affections completely confounds me. She's essentially the dumb bimbo of the Batman universe right now, especially the way her current book is portraying her. I can't imagine anyone giving a crap about this woman if she wasn't so hot and so slutty.
However, I think there's something very cool and interesting about Jason Todd. His story is possibly the most tragic and disturbing of the Bat family and I really like how he is, unlike Batman's other proteges, a rather dark reflection of Batman. Actually, he's more like a dark reflection of Nightwing. He's the failed Robin, while Dick is the star pupil and his approach to life and fighting people is now drastically different and much darker than Dick or any other Bat character.
I wish he was in the hands of a better writer. I also wish he'd just go solo and drop the dead weight in Kori and Roy. And seriously, "and the Outlaws?" That sounds so ridiculously lame. The book should just be Red Hood. I don't see other Bat family characters having to share their name with second rate sidekicks
On a more postive note, the last Batman and Robin issue I read is really good. I think I'd rate Batman and Robin as the second best Batman book right now right behind the main Batman book. Big props to Peter Tomasi. He does Alfred better than anybody and he's handling the father, son stuff with Bruce and Damian extremely well

Re: The Comic Book Thread
Just finnished the Jason Aaron and Steve Dillon run of Punishermax.
This has to be one of the most disappointing punisher runs i have read.
The first trade was interesting enough, but by the end of the second trade i knew things were going to end badly, and that is exactly what happened.
The Punisher seemed a bit out of character early on, but by the end he was doing stuff that simply didnt make sense for him at all. Garth Ennis showed that hes not just a nutjob with a huge arsenal.
Aaron's run just seems to spend far too much time telling the audience how horrible Frank was, and how he had no redemable qualities. Thats the very antithesis of what Ennis spent all those years doing.
Is he are hero, no, but hes also not a complete madman with no rhythm or reason. He was a human character capable of human emotions and even things like love.
Ill be selling all four hardback volumes i have.
Further disappointment.
Has anyone else seen the new costume for Power Girl? Wow, that is ugly. Particularly her new hairstyle. I want the old costume back stat. Amanda Conner's version was easily the best.

What comics or comic book related items are at the top your wishlist?
1. All-New Collectors' Edition #58: Superman vs. Shazam!

2. Marvel Two-In-One Annual #2 (Thanos)

3. The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes DVD-ROM Collection

4. Iron Man: 2-Disc Collector's Edition (I know, this is easy to get, I should have it already)

5. Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of the Super-Heroes for Sega Dreamcast

6. Infinity Abyss #1-6

7. The Amazing Spider-Man #300 (I had this one and sold it for party supplies because I was an idiot teenager)

8. Shazam! (1973) #1

9. Superman (1987) #75: Black Bagged Edition

10. Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #1

These are picks that are reasonably within my reach. I obviously would like to see an Action Comics #1 or Detective Comics #27 in my collection, but chances are that's not gonna happen.

I try to organize alphabetically, but I also have have boxes with "Collectibles" (it is all about timing when it comes to selling isn't it?).
When you have a break, grab yourself a peanut butter and onion sandwich and enjoy a double dose of Savage and catch Little Monsters. It's one of those "I don't care what anyone says, I LOVE it!" movies.
Just don't let indecks know about it; Kiersten might give him a semi (I'm kidding!).
Re: The Comic Book Thread
I've been out of it for a few months. I head over to Meltdown to chill with Keith earlier this month an' what do I find... Guillem March is no longer the illustrator for Catwoman and the narrative of that comic completely blows now. And then World Finest and Power Girl's horrible redesign. I'll come back when they stop breaking things that don't need fixing...Mendoza wrote:Further disappointment.

Gargoyles: Clan-Building - Volumes 1 and 2, as well as the individual issues - I'd like to see how Greg Weisman continued one of my favorite animated programs of all time. I have one or two issues in my possession, would like to get the rest and the trades.BurningDoom wrote:What comics or comic book related items are at the top your wishlist?

I have most of the Legend of Zelda comics from Valiant except these two I believe
I'd love to get my hands on all of the Darkwing Duck comics and trades, cause you know, what's cooler than Disney's version of the Goddamn Batman!?

Batman Returns - SNES - I had the cartridge when I was younger and either lost it, traded it, or sold it. I would now like to have a CIB copy of the game to keep my CIB copy of the Adventures of Batman and Robin for the SNES company

Puppet Angel - Anyone seeing this will appreciate it if they saw the Smile Time episode of Angel

I also want to get every variant of the Angel after the Fall series and the Angel and Faith series, and I want to grab whatever issues I'm still missing from Scott Snyder's run on Detective Comics and his Gates of Gotham series. I would also like to get every issue of the Batman Hush storyline featuring Jim Lee's awesome art if I can

Yeah March's departure is weird. I just got the art book of his cover illustrations called "Cover Girls" and it had some pretty great stuff in it. Though if you think that now imfamous Catwoman issue one is scandalous you should see some of the adult pin ups he did in spain.Runefaust wrote:I've been out of it for a few months.
