Old Gamers mook series in Japan

Post by greg »

I've recently discovered a great magazine/book (mook) series called Old Gamers at a local book store. However, these are available only in Japan. They cover games for the Famicom, Super Famicom, Megadrive, and PC Engine! If you want to you can import them from Amazon Japan, and I've provided links below.

Volume 1 covers games like Super Mario Bros, Sonic the Hedgehog, Bonk, Ice Climber, etc.

Volume 2 covers role playing games! Dragon Quest, Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Torneko no Daibouken, you name it.

Volume 3 contains simulation adventure games, my favorite these days! This covers games like Fire Emblem, Tactics Ogre, Nectaris (Military Madness), and even games like Graduation and Tokimeki Memorial.

Volume 4 is all about shooting games and puzzle games: shmups like Gradius and Gunhed (Blazing Lasers), chase-view shooters like Afterburner and Space Harrier, gun games like Duck Hunt (although I was disappointed to see very little attention paid to Wild Guns), and of course puzzle games like Tetris and Puyo Puyo.

Volume 5 features sports games and racing games. I may not bother picking this up, since I am not a big fan of either genre (though I do have my favorites).

So far I've bought volume 3 and 4. Maybe I'll make a video of these someday.
