yeah, i was always pissed when i had to give free coffee out to cops when i worked at a convenience store, especially worthless campus cops, but i think the whole idea is starting to get really ridiculous.

All cops MUST get free coffee or else!
I dont mean to sound like a badass or anything, but unless it was a written rule in the papers I signed upon being hired, I'd say no to any cop demanding free coffee, or even hinting at it. What are they ganna do? Arrest you? "Threaten employees with slower emergency response"?? Who would even believe this? Like the police force and emergency teams for your city have a fucking blacklist of asshole starbucks employees, and they check their list everytime 911 is dialed?

I used to work at a Taco Bell when I was a teenager (many moons ago) and we'd give free food to the cops coming through the drive-thru, the idea being they'd keep a better eye on the place and be quick to respond if there was ever any trouble. They didn't ask for special treatment but then they didn't refuse it either...
I gotta say in their defense that being a police officer must be a very difficult and depressing job. You constantly see people at their worst and deal with horrible situations on a regular basis- accidents, crimes, etc. I'd say a fair percentage of people have no respect for them either until they need their assistance. To me a free coffee, donut, or taco doesn't seem like that big a deal. Demanding such perks as an authority figure is definitely abusing the position though.

I'm with nateup2 here. Cops have their uses, especially when you're a cashier. Coffee is cheap, and it's always better to be recognized as the guy who gives them free coffee instead of the dick who doesn't. Whether you're on the job or not.
Frankly I'm kind of amazed this got reported, and the guy got fired for it. Many cops get away with far worse because of the good old boy culture of the police. He must have been hated around the precinct.
