Selling the amazing Pokemon Snap, my first game, for Yoshi's Story, the crappiest platformer I've ever played.

I know that feel, bro. I called up a guy once who was selling a SCD Model 1 w/games and a Genesis, and he told me he was in the middle of selling it to another guy. If only I hadn't waited...BoneSnapDeez wrote:About 5 months ago a local guy was selling a Vectrex on craigslist. $50 for the system, a bunch of games, and screen overlays.
For some reason a voice inside my head said something like, "You don't even know anything about the Vectrex, do a little research and think about it for awhile."
Anyway, I emailed the seller about 4 hours after the original ad went up. He replies promptly and tells me he just sold it.
Moral of the story: if you find a great deal, jump on it before it's gone.
I'm sure if I had gotten into Saturn in like 2003, I'd have enjoyed it a lot more.o.pwuaioc wrote:My only regret is not starting collecting earlier...

Mine would be that about 2 years ago, I saw a dedicated Contra cab on CL for $300.
Money was tight at the time, but I could have worked something out. Anyways, once I had sufficient funds the following week, of course the return e-mail I recieved about my inquiry said it was already sold.

I want to slap you. I want a Vectrex so bad.BoneSnapDeez wrote:About 5 months ago a local guy was selling a Vectrex on craigslist. $50 for the system, a bunch of games, and screen overlays.

I myself have a similiar story. Some guy was selling an Amiga CD32 and some game with it for 50 euros and he lives in the same city as I do, but he had already sold the system by the time I saw the ad. I didnt hesitate a second to contact the dealer though. Damn I was pissed. By the looks of it, I'll have to pay around 105-120 euros for the system and 30-50 euros for postage if I want one, since no one is selling one where I live.
Like o.pwuaioc said, my only actual regret is that I didnt start collecting sooner.

When I think back on it, I'm pretty sure I bought a Neo Geo AES about a week before I saw the Vectrex ad. So my wallet was hurting a bit already. Still shoulda bought it though (obviously).

My biggest regret would be selling about half of my collection a couple years before I started collecting. I had some great games. Nothing super rare or anything, but some good games nonetheless.

Re: What is your biggest regret in selling or buying video g
I spent my entire life selling off old systems and piles of games to fund purchases of new ones. I've wound up rebuying every system (almost), and most of the games I've had. That includes Gensis, NES, N64, Playstation, PS2, Master System and a few others.
In the mid-late 90's I inherited a Commodore 64, with a garbage bag full of floppies. There were hundreds, probably just about every single game released for the C64. I played it obsessively for about a year, and then stopped. Tried to sell it a couple of years later (when I was about 10 or 11), couldn't, so I just donated the whole shitteroo to the Salvation Army. That is my biggest gaming regret, period.
Last Christmas, Pink Gorilla in Seattle had a buy one get one free sale. Was gonna buy Kolibri and Blackthorne CIB for the 32X for... I think it came to like 35 bucks for both? It's not an AMAZING deal, but it was pretty decent, and something in my head was just like "eehhhhhhh I dunno man". Regretted not getting them as soon as I got home.
Finally, my mother, who lives in France, found a Vectrex super cheap with a pile of games. Literally cheap enough to make it worth the shipping cost. I said "yes! jump on that shit!", so she bought it and shipped it to me.
When she was going to ship it, however, she thought "gee, this box sure is bulky- I bet if I put it in a smaller box it will be easier to ship!" So she put it in a smaller box, removing all of the padding and protection, and shipped it to me. By the time it got to me it was completely broken to shit. Not even in good enough shape to use for parts, the thing was just obliterated.
To this day I have no clue what was going through her mind. It's not even a regret on my part, since it wasn't my fault- but I felt sort of like someone had dragged an endangered animal out in front of me and blew its brains out.

Geez, you guys make my stories look tame.
I let my friend borrow my 100% copy of Aria of Sorrow once, and when he gave it back to me at a football game I slipped it in my pocket and it fell out somehow. I looked everywhere for it but it never did pop up.
I let my ex borrow my DS, flashcart and a couple other games early last year. I didn't get it until we broke up some months later, and in the fallout from that I didn't even realize until months later that she stole/lost my Trauma Center cartridge.
I sold all my Game Boy stuff to buy a Game Boy Advance, and then I sold all my GBA stuff to buy a PSP when that came out. Then I sold that for a DSLite, and now I have all of them again.
The games I really really regret selling were the other two GBA Castlevania games, both Ocarinas and Darkstalkers Chronicle. I've also regretted some other sales - Katamari Damacy, SotN - that I did with Gamestop because they were scratched to shit and skipped tracks, but it's not like I got any money for them anyways. I also sold my first real console, my beloved PSOne, because I already had a PS2.
Umm... I didn't start collecting Saturn games 15 years ago.

I REALLY regret not starting my Saturn collection until about a year and a half ago.

Ha, I had something similar. I loaned my copy of Brave Fencer Musashi to someone at school once. I got it back, and stuffed it in by (very overpacked) backpack for the day until I got home.sabrage wrote: I let my friend borrow my 100% copy of Aria of Sorrow once, and when he gave it back to me at a football game I slipped it in my pocket and it fell out somehow. I got home and pulled the disc out to find it with a HUGE crack that went like, halfway through the disc from the inside. It was fine when he handed it to me, so it must've cracked in that backpack of mine.
Regretting selling? Oh geez, the biggest has to be selling off all those games on here that I sold last year. Was gonna use the money to buy a truck from my cousin... long story short, I never did get that truck, and they deny that I ever gave them money. I didn't see the need to get a receipt from them at the time because you generally don't expect family to screw you over like that, but yeah. I really undersold a lot of stuff too, it's gonna be a pain getting Mega Man Legends 2 or Chrono Trigger back.
