Was this a good idea?

Was this a good idea?

Post by Pullmyfinger »

I traded my DS lite with an M3 simply and a 2gb Micro SD for a hacked PSP 2000 with a 2gb stick, both were in pretty much the same condition. I traded mostly on impulse and because I wanted to play Metal Gear for PSP but I'm having second thoughts.

Well it all depends on what things you like.

Myself I wouldn't have done it. I have a DS lite withe the M3 DS Simply and a fat psp with cfw and I have to admit my ds gets more playtime than the psp. But if you like watching movies hearing music and photos and all that stuff then its gonna suit you.

It came with a couple emus but I haven't tried it yet, all I did was play metal gear for like 20 minutes and wasn't very impressed, I'll try some soon, is it worth getting the TV cable?

A PSP is worth it just for LocoRoco and Patapon, IMHO.

The PSP has more possibilities as a general media player as well if you are unhappy with Metal Gear (which one?). I didn't care for Acid, or Acid2, but haven't tried portable ops yet. I feel the PSP does 2d games much better... acid missions were about 25 minutes between saves, which was 15 minutes longer than any portable game should leave you without a save. I could just turn off the PSP and go on my way, but I use it for movies and music on the go as well.

Bigger memory cards keep getting cheaper for the PSP, so the possibilities keep growing...

Dracula X Cronicles, Jeanne D'Arc, Disgaea, PowerStone....lots of good stuff on the PSP. It's the one newer system I actually want.

Don't forget you also get access to pops, so you can play pretty much every game for the PSX on the PSP. Some games have compatibility issues but you can get a pretty extensive compatibility list on maxconsoles.net.

Technically the PSP is worth more on a purely value sense. However it really does depend on what you want from a handheld as to your perceived value of the console.

I have both a DS lite and a PSP and they both get equal play. However my iPhone is getting a hell of a lot of play since 2.0 came out with games like enigmo and Super Monkey Ball. Plus there's quite a few free games. I'm just waiting for the dev-team to jailbreak 2.0 so I can get a NES emulator on there!

Metal Gear was portable ops, I just played a while, but I'll give it another chance soon, totally agree with the 25 minutes without saving bit, I beat up a guard and ran around opening doors or trying to open them.

I'm not sure about the firmware, I'll have to check that.

I always wanted to play power stone on the DC, I might give it a shot on PSP, I heard about LocoRoco too, I'll try to check those out soon.

PSX emulation sounds nice, silhouette mirage and harmful park on the go will be great.

To Niode: A big batch of iPhone games are coming but they aren't all too great, thanks to my job I played a handful of prerelease versions that aren't very good

I'd personally rather have the DS lite

I have a DS Lite, and I wouldn't trade myself, but from a value point of view it was a good trade for you.

So think about it this way, if you want to "reverse" the trade after playing around with the PSP, you should be able to find someone else to swap back into the DS (possibly even with some extras gained).

Or, if you store up enough money it will take less cash to buy another DS Lite.

The DS lite clamshell design and slightly smaller size is a lot better for playing on the go, as is that very handy function of automatically going into "sleep mode" just by closing the lid. Excellent for commuting.
