I just picked up a psone with screen and I wanted to start my collection of buying some fighting games. I want to pick up capcom vs snk, street fighter alpha 2 and 3, guilty gear, darkstalkers 3, tekken 3 and 2, some arcade shooters and resident evil series. I own a couple games and I love the fact that the 5 inch screen makes the games look pretty good.
Now a good friend of mine just got a dreamcast with 20 games for 30.00. Crazt taxi, mvc 1 and 2, fatal fury, re 2,3 and code veronica, ready to rumble 1,2, project justice, street fighter 3rd strike, and alpha 3, few demos, and nfl 2 k series on all the sports and a few more. I played these great 2d games and now im itching to dump the psone for now and pick up the dreamcast. Now I want to ask you guys since many love the dreamcast and playstation, overall which one should i drop money into? Should I just hold off on the psone and just buy sega or just be happy with what I got?
Also are the psone fighting games really good ports as the dreamcast? I only owned tekken 3 and street fighter alpha 3 before.
buy psone fighters or buy a dreamcast?
Re: buy psone fighters or buy a dreamcast?
Keep both! The Dreamcast has a higher resolution, better speed for screen draws and the versatility of VGA output for most games. If a game is on both systems, overall the Dreamcast will be better due to the capabilities. For the PS1, maybe just buy the exclusive games unique to that console.

Re: buy psone fighters or buy a dreamcast?
2D fighters on the PS1 are for the most part really compromised due to the hardwares limits. Capcoms entire Vs series (as well as many other 2D fighting titles) on the PS1 are usually of below avreage quality. Ignore CVSpro on PS1 completely (it an awful port!) but get the more better titles on the console like GG, DS3, SFA2 and 3 and of course 3D fighting titles like Tekken series. With that said, invest on a dreamcast and its near perfect ports of arcade titles in its catalog. You won't regret it

Re: buy psone fighters or buy a dreamcast?
I'd say Dreamcast hands down. The VGA output is gorgeous, and the games aren't missing frames of animation like some of the PS1 ports. Oh, and there's always Bleemcast for many PS1 games out there.

If you like fighting games, Third Strike and Mark of the Wolves should be your top priority.

Dreamcast ports are the closest to being arcade perfect. DC hands down for fighters.
Re: buy psone fighters or buy a dreamcast?
Basically every single non-PS1 exclusive fighter or shoot 'em up is better on both the Saturn and the Dreamcast, then on the PS1 (with a few exceptions; mostly shoot 'em ups). The PS1 versions are fun, but... they are inferior. As has been said, they generally are missing frames of animation, run at a lower resolution or don't control as well (with the control pad).
If you are on a budget/only want to stick with one console, then the PS1 will do you fine. You just won't be getting the best versions of games.

have your cake and eat it too.
keep both.
Its nice having the screen and I know you'll reget it if you sell the PS1 with the screen.
PS1 games are quite cheap and you can have fun finding them. Find the Crash Bandicoot series and yeah, the RE series too.
Hit up the fleamarkets and others here for some nice PS1 games.
For the dreamcast some games are dirt cheap and as cheap as a burned CD. Burn the fighting games that you're interested in. And keep an eye our for them when you do find them out in the wild.
theres a lot out there to collect and although you can burn any game for the dreamcast, its way nicer having the orginal pressings.

Re: buy psone fighters or buy a dreamcast?
Honestly, I think Capcom vs SNK Pro is virtually identical on the PS1 and DC. The graphics and loading times seem exactly the same to me.
However, the Dreamcast has a killer port of Capcom vs SNK 2, so it's obviously the better choice if you're trying to decide between the two systems.
