Almost done with Episode 1. Trying to do 3 floors a day at best. Had to charge the GBA after the latest session.
Floor 5 right at the very end was a bitch at the exit -- got ambushed by 4-5 guards and killed quickly.

Only at level 5 of the first episode. Man, I am getting really nostalgic. Thanks for the maps! After I go through the game + SoD I will probably replay on harder difficulty with the maps. I'm having so much fun now that I'm older and better at games.

To be honest I'll probably end up skipping Spear of Destiny and move right on to Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Any tips on finding the secrets? I do check walls behind banners or "pocket walls" but I would like to avoid having to check each and every wall tile. For that reason, I think I will consult the maps.dogman91 wrote:I must admit it's not very fun to check every single wall tile in the entire level for a secret chamber... but a lot of the fun of Wolfenstein 3D also is to explore the area and figure out where you need to go before you run out of health and die(!) I've been using the keyboard controls for the Wolf3D version. Is that what most people are using? Anyone using a mouse? I'm only asking about controls for the original Wolf 3D DosBox version.

You definitely do not want to play the PS2 version...it's terrible. Fog, slowdown, smaller levels. It's much better on Xbox and even better on PC.noiseredux wrote:that good, eh? I'll try to pick it up then -- it's like $4 at Gamestop.dsheinem wrote: RTCW is by far my favorite entry in the series, though I might give it a pass this month.

but if my options are "buy PS2 version for $4" or "don't play this game," I should go with the first right?Jmenglan wrote: You definitely do not want to play the PS2 version...it's terrible. Fog, slowdown, smaller levels. It's much better on Xbox and even better on PC.
Anyway, I'm on 2-2 now playing on the 2nd difficulty. It's notably harder than on the easiest mode. I mean... on easiest I swear enemies didn't know how to aim their guns. And now those zombies that have guns in their chests seem to sneak up on me way more! I think upping the difficulty is definitely going to prolong this game a lot considering on easiest I was able to beat half the game in two sittings.
Re: Together Retro: Wolfenstein 3D
I have Wolfenstein, Spear of Destiny and Return to on Steam... I'll have to give it a go again, I think I gave up on 3D because I wanted to use mouselook and couldn't.

I agree the walking around clicking walls get old. I've never been much of a completionist anyway.gtmtnbiker wrote:Any tips on finding the secrets? I use a keyboard and mouse. WASD moves, mouse looks, right button opens, left button fires. Actually if I move my mouse back or forth it will make the character walk. But its so much faster and smooth its more like a quick dodge back, so it is actually kind of cool.

Re: Together Retro: Wolfenstein 3D
I've been controlling it with:
Arrow keys = Movement
Z = Strafe
X = Run
C = Use
Space = Fire
Plowed through a few more levels today. Should finish up the second episode Sunday (out of the house for the weekend).
I wonder if there's any way to have DOSBox recognize and map my Saturn controller as a Gravis Gamepad.
