Finally decided to swap out the trusty PS2 for a 60gig PS3, so I can still play most of my old PS games on it. But I need help brainstorming some of the newer games that came out for the system since I haven't been paying too close attention to new releases. Anything you guys suggest? I'm into fighters and RPG's/strategy type games mostly.
Right now I'm thinking of getting:
-Tekken 6/TT2
-Soul Calibur V
-Sonic Generations
-Armored Core 4 Answer/5
and I was thinking of picking up Sky Rim as well
Any lesser knowns or big one's I'm missing?
Getting a PS3 finally, what games do you guys suggest?

3D Dot Game Heroes - Zelda clone with a ton of references to old games
Demon's Souls/Dark Souls - Hard as hell action RPGs with an interesting online component. The server for Demon's Souls is being shut down in a month but it's still a great single player game. Dark Souls is the sequel.
Eternal Sonata - Really fun JRPG with a turn based action battle system. When your turn is up you have X seconds to do whatever actions you can, with stronger skills taking more time. The game takes place in the fevered dream of Frédéric Chopin and is extremely colorful.
Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 - Features a fluid battle system and some stunning visuals. XIII-2 has more of a traditional Final Fantasy experience, while XIII was very linear for half the game.
Resonance of Fate - RPG by Tri-Ace which has a very tactical battle system and an interesting story; rather than having to "save the world" right from the get go you spend a lot of time just living your life as a mercenary for hire (small jobs, like "find my locket"). The story presentation reminds me of the presentation of Ghost in the Shell SAC.
Valkyria Chronicles - Tactical RPG with an interesting meld of turn-based and real-time elements. When you select a soldier from the overhead map you zoom in to a third person view and can run around (until you use up your move points). Enemies can take opportunity shots at you if you get too close, so the path you take matters. When you want to attack the game pauses to let you line up the shot. Enemies are under the same restrictions (so you can set up killing grounds for shorter range enemy units). Set in an alternate universe's version of World War II.

I recommend God of War 3 just as a showcase for the system. I've had a gaming-quality PC since long after they made the PS3 obsolete, but GOW3 made my jaw drop. The only other game that's really held my attention (that wasn't a PS2 port) is Wipeout HD, which is a compelling argument for owning a PS3 in itself. It helps that I'm a sucker for the photo mode.

Sure, I'll give you suggestions. Just don't come back in a few days and tell us to shut up because you're getting a PC instead.

Batman: Arkham Asylum
Batman: Arkham City
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

3D Dot Game Heroes is definitely one I'd co-sign. That's one of my favorite games this generation.
IF you're a fan of fighters, PS3 is a great console for fighting games. I'd recommend:
Arcana Heart 3
BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend
King of Fighters XIII
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition
Street Fighter X Tekken
Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3

Catherine is an awesome game that I forgot to mention. Like QBert with angst. Even if you don't think it's up your alley, it's more than worth at least trying.

Well how do you feel about downloadable games? if you're ok with them I'd say street fighter 3rd strike is a must for any fighting game fan.
Also nier is pretty well regarded and is kind of a sleeper hit expecting it to be on the ps3 hidden gems article if one ever happens. Its a action rpg with a pretty good story and a great soundtrack.
Heavy rain is a fun time but it doesn't really fall into any of the categories you said you were interested in though.
I'll post more later when I'm in my game room these are just off the top of my head.

I think people think I like that game way more than I do. Haha. I did find it really unique and fun, but it's not my favorite game of all time or anything.

EDIT:
as far as RPG's go, I think FFXIII-2 is fantastic. I'd recommend that over the first, though I do enjoy the first.
