Looks like it's official, Bethesda is making an Elder Scrolls MMO. Anyone interested? I have a love/hate affair with MMO's. I enjoy them, but hate the monthly fee because I don't want to feel obligated to play it. If it's free to play, this may be the ultimate MMO in my mind. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
Thoughts?

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online - MMO Announced.
It's set at an interesting time. It's after the fall of the Akaviri Potentiate and before Tiber Septim reunites Tamriel in an empire. So there will be no central authority like there was in previous Elder Scrolls games; each of the provinces are on their own. This could make for an interesting dynamic. I'm also curious how they'll implement the combat system.
I'm cautiously optimistic about this. I've always felt like the Elder Scrolls games were like a single player MMO. But at the same time the real draw was all the little things you could discover and do in the games, while most MMOs have a system of raid dungeons to keep the high level players subscribed. I'll need a lot more details about how they handle that before I decide to purchase.

Mmmmm...
Put me in the same camp as Mr. Popo.
I want to be excited, because I trust Bethesda, I love Elder Scrolls, and I have learned to enjoy some mmos. Having said that though, Popo is right in that there's a certain level of detail I expect in this universe. The mmo style is not one that really caters to that mindset.
I think a free to play model might be beneficial, as they won't be so heavily invested in keeping people interested in repeating the same dungeons over and over again at higher levels.
I'm also concerned that this might bleed over into the main series in some way. I grew very tired of the boneheads that were wanting deathmatches and the like in Skyrim before that came out, so I don't want a successful mmo to inspire Bethesda to cram Multiplayer in the main games. Maybe that's a silly thing to worry about, but I can't help thinking it just the same. As long as they remain separate entities though, I'll be happy.
I'm curious to get more info, that's for sure.
Of course, if it turns out to be good stuff, between this and PSO2, I just might starve to death in front of my computer.

I totally agree and that's why I'm excited. If they can maintain the feel of the previous games but make it multiplayer? Awesome.MrPopo wrote: I'm cautiously optimistic about this. My biggest concern is that it will just be a typical MMO in the TES world. I've never thought the fiction itself was that interesting. It was more the open feeling and the sense of "place" you got from playing the games. If it's just another MMO set in Tamriel, meh.
Also, persistent housing ala SWG please

Hmm. I think if anyone can pull off an MMO these days, it would probably be them. Solid, well adored IP, lots of cash.. I wouldn't play it, but I bet I could find a lot of people I know who would. It will be interesting to see this develop, from an outside perspective.
As long as they don't decide to stop doing single player affairs, this doesn't affect me more than just as a curiosity.

I'm not terribly concerned about that. Since it's set in the Second Era they're still free to move forward with the current Fourth Era storyline as started in Skyrim.ksloth wrote:As long as they don't decide to stop doing single player affairs, this doesn't affect me more than just as a curiosity.

Re: The Elder Scrolls Online - MMO Announced.
The general plotline of "x tries to invade Nirn" is a bit off-putting for me, but then again it is Elder Scrolls. Lore-wise, around this period the Septim Empire doesn't exist yet, the Dark Brotherhood was just founded, the ALMSIVI still have their full power, and Akavir is still a major threat.
I don't know if this is just me, but I would like to see Bethesda make you choose which factions to join, making a few mutually exclusive like the three houses in Morrowind.

I'll only care if they make this as cool as Mortal Online.
The last 3 Bethesda RPGs all felt exactly the same to me. I know the "Oblivion with guns" comparison is played out, but all the wonder in these games got lost when they started mass-marketing them. Oh, and don't expect a new single-player Elder Scrolls any time soon.

Is it really necessary for Amalur, Darksiders, Warcraft and now Elder Scrolls to use the exact same fucking art style? Not to mention Warhammer Heroes. What an instant turn-off.
Edit: yup, it's official.
