What comes with a Model 2 Sega CD?

Post by Jerkface Killah »

Hey gang. I am going to sell my model 2 Sega CD but all my Sega accessories are mixed up. Can someone with a complete Sega CD model 2 tell me what comes in the box? The unit itself, the extension piece for the model 1 genesis, a grounding plate, right? Anything else besides cables?

Thanks!

Yes, the metal plates (there are some small ones and the big one) and screws go with it. AC adapter and stereo connecting cable (with shield) also. There was no mini-Y cable.

I'm going from memory from 1993 here!

The question is if there was a special kit for the model 1 genesis or if they came by default with the model 2 genesis plate?

I've seen special metal plates for model 1 genesis for use on the model 1 and model 2 CD units. I thought they were all the same but some didn't line up.

My question is basically, "What comes in the box of a Sega CD (Model 2)?"

So far, I assume the following.
1. Sega CD console
2. AC Adapter
3. Extension piece for Model 1 Genesis.
4. Grounding plate (i have one big one. How many did it come with?)

I'm not sure of other stuff. Did it include the white and red audio cables or did it have a full composite cable? Anything else missing?

Thanks.

It came with the large grounding plate, but also with a small metal clamp that goes in the expansion port.

Do you have the manual? It probably tells you in there.

Sadly I don't have the manual, but that's a good idea. I'll check on replacement manuals.com or whatever it is.

Here's what the manual says:

Sega CD console
Steel joining plate and screw
2 small connector plates
AC adaptor
Sound mixing cable (for use with the original Genesis model)
Sega CD User's Manual
Consumer reply card

I actually have two model 2 Sega CD manuals, the other one adds one item: Extension spacer (for use with the original Genesis model)
I want to say it was included with all Sega CDs though.

What's the deal with those metal plates? I've never had/used them and my Sega CD works fine.

Didn't the 32X have some sort of metal attachment too? Never seen that either.

Well, other than cancer risks (hope you don't have plans for children), I imagine they were mostly to block interference and meet those FCC guidelines you see on all electronics. The metal clips for the 32X are also touted as 'holding the slot open' as if the unit itself can't do that somehow.

But no, they're note really necessary. I have one on my Gen 1/SCD, but not my Gen 2/SCD or 32X either. All work fine.

The big steel joining plate that comes with the Sega CD is actually pretty useful and locks the Genesis in place. I use mine. Great for when your moving them around. Of course, they aren't necessary for operation.
What a maneuver!
