holy shit april is over
i enjoyed Zanac Neo but it's certainly not my favourite Compile title. surprisingly only had a handful of runs this month (got distracted by Robo Aleste) & I didn't quite break 4 million. with single runs that clock in close to 60 mins i found it became quite a daunting game...

I'm looking forward to Dimahoo! i haven't really played it too seriously but I've heard it's really brutal.

I was expecting someone on April 30 to come along and school me on ZXZ; just wasn't expecting a master-class score

So now onto Dimahoo.

My thoughts

If I gotta play bullet hell, best to make it one from Raizing. This game's got style and elements not seen anywhere else in shmups. I can't stop seeing the item names as I pick them up (and how freaking cool is Champion Beef?). I'm not too put off by the enemies or the bosses, I find them pretty easy to work with. The challenge here is finding the point opportunities and best times to unleash the charge shots as Dunpeal pointed out. I am seriously *loving* this game so far.

With that, you know you always get more than just this from me -- here is the first strike score.

1,089,850 - ExedExes - Stage 3 - Solo-Bang - 28/108 - MAME

Good idea to put the items acquired down too with your scores. I like seeing at the end what I got. I managed to complete all the "Food" type items this run. Apparently that will increase a score multiplier.

Also assembled a fine selection of links from the great folks at Shmups forum:

Character Info
Item Location Info
Old Score Thread
New Score Thread

Looks like those virtuosos there can get over 10 mil, our scores do not even stack up at this point. I expect to see better from myself and all of you.

Are you great?
WE ARE GREAT!

1,835,170 - Dunpeal2064 - Stage 3 - Karte - 48/108 - Arcade

My girlfriend 's score is also on there, she said she wants to participate this month. ^^

1,132,750 - ALP - Stage 2 - Karte - 33/108 - arcade

Phew, this game slaps you in the face with its balls pretty much constantly. Stage 3 does let up a bit at first, but the boss straight murders.

Also, if you don't pick up any bomb fragments until you kill the middle goblin that comes out of the forest, you'll get the Pinwheel, a hidden weapon worth 100k.

The goal to scoring seems to be to pick a set of items to go for, since completing a full set is what gives you a crazy score multiplier, which will apply to all items picked up from there on out.

As much as I love Solo Bang for his cool name and awesome charge attack, I just always do better with Karte.

Hey, glad to see ya here!

This is the place for Dimahoo scores, and the hidden ships are perfectly legit.

There he is!

This is gonna take some figuring out - so many, well, 108 pieces beyond the medals and diamonds to figure out, plus the bonus features - lots going on here...

Is it gay that this makes me excited?

Really though, today I've got very little to do so I think I'm gonna be giving it some time. Pretty excited to give it a go actually, you guys are talking it up quite a bit and I haven't played a Raizing shmup in awhile.

nah. I'm really not feeling emulating for score contest. Especially after the fiasco that was Truxton. I got plenty of new games (including shmups) that I haven't spent time on to keep me busy for a month anyway.
