What do you all play MAME games with?
I've tried using the standard Logitech controller (the one that looks like a PS2 controller) and a SNES controller hooked to a SuperSmartJoy, but the button layout doesn't feel right for arcade games.
My USB Saturn knockoff controller is a bit better, but is so cheap and flimsy.
For the record, I'm mainly emulating beat 'em ups, shmups, and action games.

I use one of my Hori PS1/2 sticks and a PS2 to USB convertor. Works great for me, though I suppose fighter peoples might have concerns for input lag. I haven't noticed any with the Red Octane adapter I use, though it is OOP.

If you have one of the Mad Catz PS3 fight sticks they work great on the PC.

Out of the box most USB PS3 controllers work in the PC with the right driver, there are Blue Tooth drivers as well. As far as investing in an expensive Arcade stick, you can't go wrong with a PS1/PS2 Arcade stick. Its the most versatile as far as adapter availability for different consoles including PCs and Macs.BoneSnapDeez wrote:For the record, I'm mainly emulating beat 'em ups, shmups, and action games.
I think the choice depends on the Genre and preference. I prefer the RedBall Arcade stick for most SHMUPS, Fighting and older Williams Arcade games. I also like a Large Trakball for games such as Reactor or Centipede and then a Spinner for a bottom shooter such as TacScan or "Center Shooter" Puzz Loop.

I use the Microsoft Sidewinder USB Plug N Play Pad but I also have an ]X-Arcade Solo Joystick with all the real authentic arcade parts. Good build quality but the adapter they bundle with it is not working on my computer at the current time

I don't know about best, but I'm using a Hori PS2 Tekken 5 Anniversary arcade joystick with the buttons & stick swapped out for Sanwa parts. It's connected through a Mayflash 3-in-1 controller adapter. For trackball games I use a Kensington Expert trackball mouse, tho I've been considering swapping it out for an Ultimarc U-track.

Don't have a MAME setup yet ... but when I do build one I actually intend on making my own stick.
In the meantime, I make due with the MK and Tekken sticks I have.
I otherwise use a Wii remote or 360 controller.

Those are the genres I usually play; I like to use a Saturn USB. If you can get a real one, go for it.BoneSnapDeez wrote:My USB Saturn knockoff controller is a bit better, but is so cheap and flimsy.
