Slim PS2 Drive Lid Problem

Post by Sahkolihaa »

Been a while since I posted here, sorry about that!

Anyway, I got hold of a slim PS2 from the local game store today (model 7003) but I have some weird problem with the drive lid. If I touch the bottom left hand corner, it causes the drive to re-initialise (as if I was opening and closing the lid). If a game is running, this can cause it to crash.

Is this a faulty drive or is it a known problem that I should just try to avoid at all costs? If it's a fault, I'll be taking it back tomorrow.

Cheers!

The slims have very finicky lid sensor buttons. My solution was to break off the switch boxes and solder bridges across them. The front lid switch has 2 contacts, the back has 4. This of course disables the ability to change discs without resetting power.

I'll probably just put a bit of blue/white tack on the corner causing the problem :)
