But Amon mentioned that the benders took away his face. Dude...I wonder.

That might have been a made up story, or perhaps exaggerated.
Another thing I was thinking about this last episode...

There will be a 3-volume comic set about that. First one is already out, but I haven't read it.

Yeah, that new episode was great. That fight scene at the end was interesting - Korra isn't as mobile as Aang since she can't airbend yet and Bei Fong has to save her. Even when she gets decent at it, I doubt we're going to see her getting light on her feet. On the other hand she doesn't seem as bound to one style. She's being a lot more practical, not afraid to just deck someone if the situation calls for it. And her inexperience shows! I respect that so much. I alternatively think "I could totally take her sans the fireballs" and "what was THAT?"
Hm, Amon is walking all over everyone. How did they not see that coming? The Council needs to grow some brains.
Anyway I'm pretty sure Amon is Katara

Actually, I think it's pretty obvious that he's the son of the cabbage merchant. That guy hated benders and Team Avatar for always destroying his cabbages. Amon is the son of a farmer that was killed by a fire bender. That merchant was one of the sources for the "Boy in the Iceberg" play (link), so he obviously had some sort of connection to the Fire Nation.MrEco wrote:Pfft, please. In the beginning of episode 6 we heard a commercial for Cabbage Corp., "Republic City's trusted name in technology for 50 years." Later in the episode Amon says that "technology" has leveled the playing field between benders and non-benders. He says that "Now anyone can hold the power of a chi-blocker in their hand." Sounds like a sales pitch to me. Is Amon the president of this company?

But seriously, Amon probably learned the technique to take away bending by having his own bending taken away by Aang. *EDIT: I see now that Ziggy beat me to the punch.*
Being a little more speculative, I think Amon may be the former council rep of the Northern Water Tribe. It kinda looked like that from the episode 6 flash back. He might wear a mask because his face is too recognizable to everyone in the city. Amon may be able to manipulate the city council so easily because he already knows them all personally.
I also think that Amon has some sort of connection to Tarrlok. That guy knows a little too much about the Equalists if you ask me. He really pushed the council into Amon's hands in the last episode and seems to have ulterior motives. Tarrlok's young age (37) compared to the rest of the council may be connected with councilman "Amon" being evicted.
Amon's access to cutting edge technology suggests he is involved with either Future Industries or Cabbage Corp. Probably the former. Something has to break up the Mako-Asami-Korra love triangle. Now that I think of it, Korra wouldn't have been able to participate in the championships without help from Future Industries...

lol. That's awesome. I wonder if Republic Cities has any more megacorporations?
I think you're right about Amon having ties to the council, and Tarrlock's ponytails gave away his evilness right away. Ah, anyway. Bolin is going to end up with Asami and they are going to laugh at everyone else for their horrible cartoony relationship problems.

Re: Avatar (airbender) fans: Legend of Korra release date!
The last two episodes have been great, especially the last one. The last episode was what I've been waiting for, mainly Korra finally meditating and getting the entire story behind the visions she's been having.
So (story spoiler alert)...
After the last episode, they had a trailer for the season finale. They said the finale was an hour special but I checked on my cable box and next week's episode is only scheduled in a half hour time slot. I'm gonna have to keep an eye on that, I'll be really pissed if my DVR doesn't record the entire finally.
So (story spoiler alert)...
