There were some pretty gruesome death scenes in BrainDead 13 (of course, that was the entire point of the game, so it's to be expected)

Re: The most startling "Game Over" screens
Ok, this is not an "official" game over screen but I always found this hilarious from the AVGN's take on F13th for NES game over screen
:

I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

X-Files game death/game over scenes. Played the PS1 version back in the day. Most seen GO scene for me was Agent Wilmore falling dead on the ground.
Re: The most startling "Game Over" screens
Only titles I can think of are Eternal Darkness, where, similar to Prince of Persia: Sands of Time you get flashes of upcoming and previous events. Also, Breath of Fire II where the final boss goes over the trials and tribulations of your current party members.J T wrote:Has there ever been a death scene that captured the "life flashing before your eyes" phenomenon?

Yeah, that was MGS4. When you die, it shows random story and gameplay images.BoringSupreez wrote:I'm not sure, but I think an MGS game did that.xan_racketBOY_fan wrote:That's brilliant - why haven't I seen this in a game yet. The tech is certainly there.J T wrote:Has there ever been a death scene that captured the "life flashing before your eyes" penomenon?
I think it would be cool if when you died in a final battle, you saw a quick stream of images from earlier points of your playthrough just before you died and the game over screen hit.

I didn't think that was scary, but it was nearly seizure-inducing. (Like the intro to A Link to the Past.)markeconrad wrote:The Zelda II gameover scared me as a kid.
I actually loved the Legend of Zelda game over music -- if you let it go on, it turns into something real nice and upbeat.markeconrad wrote:On the opposite end of the spectrum, Earthbound had the most relaxing Gameover music ever...
