I've heard about this before, and I found it to be an interesting curiosity. Have any of our older racketeers ever had any experience with this piece of technology? What about other old-school digital things like Sega Channel, XBAND, or Satellaview? If you have used these, or possess the peripherals could you share stories or post images?
Did anyone ever use Gameline back in the 2600 days?

Wow, something before the Sega Channel? Never even heard of this.
Sega Channel was really cool. Obviously couldn't save anything at all (not that many Genesis games had that capability). It was expensive though, my family never had it but I had some friends that did. I think they changed the download lineup by the month or something, it was a pretty big selection. Downloading took forever but yeah it was awesome at the time heh.

I have a Satellaview now but obviously can't connect. The user interface has a cool Earthbound feel.

How so? Bright solid-color word bubbles and a similar font?hashiriya1 wrote:I have a Satellaview now but obviously can't connect. The user interface has a cool Earthbound feel.

It's not like a traditional menu. You control a character walking around a town. Each building or 'shop' is a different menu option.

This is pretty damn cool. I always thought the Sega Channel was the earliest example of this sort of thing.

I love stuff like this. Part of me wants to get a Saturn NetLink and Commodore 64 modem just for kicks.

That is really cool. I've just been reading about the service on wiki, and while the original company went bust in 83, the members formed another company doing a similar service for the C64 and eventually turned into AOL.
