Splintercell...
Splintercell...
Got the urge to try out the Splintercell games again recently, and wanted to ask about the best installments and best console to play on. I played the first one years ago on the ps2 but never played any of the others, until Conviction on the 360 (But I know that one is like a completely different game).
So which is the best in the series? will there be a huge difference between the ps2 and xbox version? What about Double Agent, since that was on the xbox and the 360, is there a big difference between those?

Re: Splintercell...
get the hd trilogy on ps3 if you have one they seem to only be link $20 on amazon, you get all 3 updated with hd resolution. out of the three chaos theory is my favorite, story was the best, and the graphics hold up even today. i remember that one blew me away on the original xbox. if you dont have a ps3 the next best thing is get them on the oxbox it handles it the best i believe the ps2 and gamecube versions had to be scaled down to run on them.

Chaos Theory is considered the benchmark in the series and for good reason. If your Gamestop still have them, pick up the original Xbox version for dirt cheap (looks great thru 480p and plays perfectly on the 360). Double Agent is tons better than Conviction (not a Splinter Cell, imo), and sports an amazing online Mercs vs Agents game. Hiding in the shadows from real, live players is just an adernaline rush, its crazy!

man i think im gonna pop in my splinter cell trilogy right now i just had a huge nostalgia attack

Re: Splintercell...
I kept hearing that Chaos Theory was the one to play, and after reading up a bit I think that will be the one to get. I normally like to play earlier installments of games first because I like to appreciate the improvements made in sequels, and not feel limited if I wanted to go back an play an earlier game with inferior controls or something. What is the consensus on Double Agent? That one interested me back when it was new but I never got to play it.
Edit: what about the 3ds version of Chaos Theory? I understand it is pretty bare bones, but I dont need any frills, if the single player portion of the game is fully intact I might be interested in that version.

I am currently playing it now, it plays all right, I find that it runs a bit slow in certain areas and controlling the camera with the face buttons is not very precise, however it is still an enjoyable experience.Edit: what about the 3ds version of Chaos Theory? I have only ever finished Conviction, which I really enjoyed, but it does not play like the other in the series.

My opinion on Double Agent is that is an enjoyable experience that plays closely to what Chaos Theory set fourth (starts off with a great first mission). Probably the thing that most players didn't enjoy playing were what I like to call the "hub" area and day time missions. Still, Double Agent is an great stealth game with an amazing online component (though I'm not sure if it's still active, haven't fired it up in years).

Re: Splintercell...
Conviction is my favourite Xbox 360 game. I understand it's not as stealthy as the others, although I challenge people to complete it on Realistic difficulty. Which I did, as well as the Deniable Ops, the online Co-op, the PEC challenges, the achievements, I spent more time with this game this generation than any other, and I still think Conviction is underrated.
My favourite Splinter Cell before that was Chaos Theory for sure. Probably the best example of a stealth game, and still looks and plays absolutely gorgeous. I miss some of the moves and features like dragging bodies and the knife in the newer games

If you are getting the PS2 version of Chaos Theory look for the Tin case with the bonus disc.jay_red wrote:I kept hearing that Chaos Theory was the one to play, and after reading up a bit I think that will be the one to get. Re: Splintercell...
I consider the PC version of Chaos Theory to be the only one worth playing, though I haven't tried the HD one. There's still an active multiplayer community. I had no problems with Pandora Tomorrow on PS2 but I reached a certain point where I knew I'd never finish it. Chaos Theory is superior in every aspect and the story isn't much worth writing home about.
Can you believe it's Splinter Cell's 10th anniversary?
