I'll go on a limb and assume i'm the only one who's posted today w/a degree in law enforcement?
I'll go on another limb and assume i'm not the only who has lost friends AND family to drunk drivers. Or in one case, the driver "wasn't even buzzed yet...".
So - for the sake of a couple folks trying to be funny, and a couple more folks who are to young to understand what an actual violation of civil liberties is, i'll leave it with those two statements.

Perhaps the sober and non-slurred response Luke finally gave convinced him of his sobriety?s1mplehumar wrote:Vehicle stops are a battleground. Officers cannot and should not take any chances with potential offenders. The only thing that puzzles me is why the officer didn't follow through.

That wasn't, by the way, an agreement with the other posters, but simply an answer why the officer might not have pressed Luke further.s1mplehumar wrote:I'm done here.

Irony: I do not think it means what you think it means.
For your sake, i'll be more blunt.
You are quite young and your posts tonight have been silly.

I personally have lost 3 friends to DUI related incidents, so shit like this is no joke to me.
These checkpoints are set up for the safety of the general public, so if I'm inconvenienced a couple minutes, so lives could potentially be saved; I have no problem with it at all.
IMO, the officer most likely would not have made the request if there was no probable cause.

Yeah, I don't quite agree with the things you say either.mjmjr25 wrote:Irony: I do not think it means what you think it means.

Exactly. I had to deal with one myself and had no issues with it.foxhound1022 wrote: These checkpoints are set up for the safety of the general public, so if I'm inconvenienced a couple minutes, so lives could potentially be saved; I have no problem with it at all.
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Wow.
To clear a few things up, I hadn't been drinking as I do not drink and drive. Period.
This entire ordeal took only a few minutes mrmj, so it wasn't like I was holding up a crack den raid. Plus, the way I did things saved time by not wasting everyone's time by having me take sobriety tests, so na na na boo boo.
I was asked if I had been drinking after I was told I was free to go, which raised a red flag.
He would only ask that if he was starting to build a case. I wasn't trying to waste anyone's time, I just wanted to get my cheese and not be seen by my neighbors taking a field sobriety test. I didn't want them to see me in the back of a cop car either but I hadn't been drinking so I stood my ground. I knew I could refuse any field tests, so I did.
The officers explained my options and I told them that I hadn't been drinking and I just wanted to get cheese for my pizza (which turned out really good).
I think what happened was that the incorrect address thing may have made them a little suspicious. That and I don't look like someone who would live in this neighborhood. I bet that during their second conversation, Officer 2 asked Officer 1 if I really should be detained any longer and they both agreed that I posed no threat and was sober as they come.
Silence is golden. If I had told the Officer I had a scotch last night, that would have escalated things. There was nothing wrong with what the officers did, and I didn't do anything wrong so it all worked out fine. Officer 1 had a bad attitude, that's all.
So what's with all the hullabaloo? I was in my rights, and the officers followed protocol. Not sure why that would start any arguments.
