found a new thrift store

Post by nickfil »

a guy in the back had a ton of nintendo/sega stuff. Sadly- no saturn or dreamcast though.

here is what i got for 40 bucks.

Also not pictured i got a slew of complete games from the normal thrift store i go to in my neighborhood. Mostly sports games like bases loaded, John Elways quarterback and some others. But the haul of complete games included a super mario brothers 2 that is so fucking mint that i could seal the thing in plastic wrap and sell it new. Got those for 10.

Loving what i'm finding lately. I'm on fire.

I don't think that is worth $40, perhaps castlevania is the only rare one of the lot

most of those bastards that work at thrift stores keep all the good stuff for themselves or jack up the price so no one buys it so they can have it later for free most likely, don't get me wrong you may luck out once in awhile but it shouldn't be about luck, you know damn right games come in there more often than you see them and employees are keeping them for themselves.

yeah- they were priced pretty much how i would find them on ebay plus the shipping. But it'll work out after a while because the guy will get to know me and cut me deals. We were chatting today about how I was looking for a sega master system and how he just gave one away because it wasn't in pristine condition to a regular guy.

Could be a hussle, but might not be. Its just nice to even find these carts in a local place. Even if they aren't rare, they are still good games that I've been dying to get a hold of but didn't want to go through the hassle of ebay for something i would come across anyway.

Either way- I don't think the guy was trying to gouge me, just get what he thought they were worth.

Yeah, you didn't get totally gouged, but that is a little steep. I hope you build up a relationship and get some deals. I've done that recently to my advantage.

Its a plus that you know someone there but its a thrift store you shouldn't have to pay ebay prices.

true.

Thrift store finds are weird. They run one of three ways. Either grossly overpriced, Kinda fair priced, or crazy under priced. To be honest, i feel like in the last 5 years or so more and more people started to collect Nintendo and Sega games. Because of this i just get excited to find a decent amount of good games and not be crazy gouged. There is one local shop here in philly that deals with buying and selling games beyond the gamecube. They had a loose copy of chrono trigger for a hundred. I love that game, but not that much.

At the end of the day- its just 40 bucks. I know if i didn't pick up those games i would've regretted it and probably just burnt the money at the bar or something. Plus, its not like if i find a similar lot for like 5 bucks I'm not going to get it.

for the future is there some kind of resource on the net for rarity rankings of old games? I know about the holy grails of nes stuff like bubble bath babes and the Myriad 6 in 1, but what about the middle ground stuff?

ive noticed more people seem to be getting into retro games as well. Luckily the shop near my home charges 5 dollars for practicly any NES game that isnt a sports or isnt rare, unfortunatly their inventory is sorely lacking right now.
